We had our weekly family dining experience last evening. It was my week to choose and we went to The #CrackerBarrel in Morton. It was good to have all five of us at the dinner table together which only seems to happen on Sunday evenings anymore. And for a change, all of us were in a pretty good mood and there was hardly any squabbling among the boys.

We even had a great waitress who got all our orders right and made sure our drinks were full. An altogether wonderful meal.

The boys usually take a shot at the triangular board peg game they have at every table. You jump a peg over another to remove the jumped peg and the goal is to end up with only a single peg left. While they were playing with that a stranger walked by our table and left a note with the method to win the easy game.

Ever so often we read, see and hear about an escalation in one community or another on the “War on Drugs”. I think it is pretty clear our society never learned the lessons of Prohibition nearly 70 years ago.

We should end the ineffectual “War on Drugs”, make them legal and tax them just enough to keep our coffers full yet not encourage bootleggers. The crimes associated with illegal drug trade would virtually disappear and our prisons could be used to house real criminals.

That’s not to say I don’t think drug use shouldn’t be regulated. I do. Just like alcohol use is regulated. My point is making them illegal altogether doesn’t work at all and only creates more crime problems than it solves. There are some things you just aren’t going to prevent. Drugs, prostitution and bad politicians are just a few of those.

Taking the money out of the drug trade and politics will be the only real cures for those problems.

The Crazy War on Marijuana

I was just complaining bitterly about the loss of my favorite sinus medication to the ‘War on Drugs’. I said it wouldn’t take the drug traffic to figure out a better to supply their customers and here is the proof of just that. If they can’t make it here —— they will just import it from Mexico. And since we can’t even keep track of the illegal people who cross our borders, it is doubtful we will be able to stop the illegal drugs either. Meanwhile I’m still looking for a decent medication to stop my headaches.
