I have always been concerned that these corporate administered ‘savings plans’ have been a license to steal in some cases. Especially in those cases where employee contributions are used to purchase only the stock of the company sponsoring the plan.
I don’t have such a plan with Caterpillar simply because I did not trust them to administer my money. It does not surprise me to see Caterpillar in that list of companies that cheated employees with obscure management fees.
Alan came over for a visit yesterday and we again discussed a few of the social ills of our time. On the subject of war we agree it would be a very bad thing if the draft were reinstated to fuel the need for cannon fodder. Or should I say IED fodder.
We both have sons who are at the ripe age for a draft and the thought of them being maimed or killed in a foreign war of aggression is something I try very hard not to think about. It is clear from much of this site’s content what I think of the current administration and their policies.

I had been aware of Keith Olbermann on MSNBC because I occasionally go to the web site. We don’t watch much television news because of the incessant, inane commercials. I was really impressed with the way he says almost exactly what I have been thinking of the Duh-bya administration in particular and the GQP in general. You will probably see more links to his commentary in the future.

It appears to me the Pekin city council has decided to expand the size of the council for the sole purpose of circumventing the Open Meetings Act. Not the best reason to spend thousands of dollars and more complication to government.
This is an obvious part of the trend to run city, state and federal government behind closed doors. The sad thing is that there is so little dissent from the people about this waste of money and obfuscation of a law designed to make government more transparent.
Another good opinion piece poking ridicule at our Empty Warhead in the White House. Here’s my favorite quote:

BLITZER: Let’s move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war–if not already a civil war–We see these horrible bodies showing up, tortured, mutilation. The Shia and the Sunni, the Iranians apparently having a negative role. Of course, al Qaeda in Iraq is still operating.
DUH-BYA: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that’s the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there’s also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there’s a strong will for democracy. (emphasis added)

I don’t know if he writes his own stuff or not, but he sure delivers it well. I read a few of the ‘Comments’ before I happened to watch a video clip of his delivery. You really get a feel for the meaning of his words in his delivery. I wish I had the opportunity to say what I really feel as Olbermann does, but then I doubt I could be as effective.
