Tracey reminded me of another part of our Friday the 13th saga. Although we got married on 7/7 we did so at 13:13 (1:13 p.m.) just to balance it out. We survived another Friday the 13th quite well and are looking forward to the next.

I had to return a knitting book to the library for Tracey yesterday. I decided to treat myself and went to the Cracked Barrel in Morton after the library.

Shortly after I sat down Jerry Brown walked over and sat down. Jerry was the president of my union hall throughout most of the bad years in the 90s when Caterpillar dismantled our union (with a lot of help from our government). We only talked for a few minutes but it sure brought back a lot of memories. Some good —— some not so good.

Jerry took an International job in the middle of our fight with Caterpillar and has since retired a couple years ago. He and his wife Deb live near Pekin. All in all a bittersweet reunion.

Changing the subject —— Luciano’s recent article sums up the frustration of many people I am sure.

Governor voting idea: Punt, pray

I completely understand the consideration of voting for that third party candidate. I also understand the realty of that decision. In reality you are more likely to end up with Duh-bya by voting for Ralph Nader. That was a history lesson in how NOT to vote against who you don’t want. The GQP would agree in the context of Perot.

The only way I see the third party nominee as viable is if people had sense enough to coordinate their voting to make sure they weren’t throwing their vote away. And that would mean getting a whole lot more involved than wandering down to the voting booth and doing nothing else. I suspect I will hold my nose and vote for Boloneyvich (actually against Tooplinka).

Been meaning to tell you that I love all of the “history”....stories and pictures! Thanks!

Hi Tammy! I was beginning to wonder if you were checking on us or not anymore. I’m not sure what you mean —— but if you mean the stuff about us I should think that was the most boring! Thanks for dropping by!

Here’s a story for you. A few years ago my brother Alan gave me his old garage door opener because he had only one remote and Sears had discontinued the style and he couldn’t get another.

So he bought a new door opener and I ended up with the old. I put it up on one of the doors in our garage (we have a three car garage) and it hasn’t been a problem.

A week or so ago I found an Internet site that sells little pocket remotes that will fit on your key chain and you are supposed to be able to train them by holding the original remote next to the new one and pushing the button while simultaneously holding the training button on the new one.

I thought it was worth a try for $20 so I ordered one. It showed up today. So I took the garage door remote in the house with me and set about trying to ‘train’ this new remote control. I was sitting at the kitchen table trying to get this thing to work —— the new one is supposed to flash its little light three times when it has been ‘trained’. Then I would go out and see if the new 1 would work — and it wouldn’t.

But I noticed that each time I went outside the garage door was either up or down and usually opposite the way it was the time before. After several tries I discovered the garage door stuck half open and the little red reset button on the motor unit was popped out.

So I fiddled with that for a while and finally got the door working again but it keeps blowing the reset. What I think happened is that while I was in the kitchen pushing buttons on the remote the garage door was running up and down until the motor overheated and tripped the reset breaker.

Now I can’t get the darn thing to completely open or close the door without blowing the breaker. Instead of needing a new remote I may now need a new garage door opener. Doesn’t that just figure! I hope after it cools down it will be OK, but I have my doubts.

Well shoot! I guess it is just one of those days! I just tried to upload this to the site and it refuses to let me log on. I have been having trouble with it doing that for the past few days. I called tech support and got an automated message telling me they are aware of my problem, they have gotten numerous calls, and they are working on it. first of all, it is not MY problem —— it is THEIRS! And I wish they would get it fixed so I can complain to the world about my stupid garage door opener! If ever I manage to get this on the site you will know they have (temporarily) fixed their (my) problem. (I wonder if they do garage door openers?)

Ah! Finally up and running again. Here’s a link to Snopes explaining why the macabre video I just received is not what it appears to be. I am learning. (But not yet a Master!)

I “read you” every day! (right after the PJS and obits!)
Dave always tells everyone that he has a great garage door opener --- me! Look at it this way: at least you didn’t spend your day in a recliner AND you got some exercise going in and out!

We just finished watching the movie RV and we’re ready to rent one and go!
