In case you ever had any doubts about the disparity of justice in America.
You will note the co-conspirator didn’t catch the same break ... guess he couldn’t afford enough judges.

Things are getting a bit soggy around here lately.  Our basement sump pump started running yesterday morning and has run at least once every half hour since.  I hope it holds up or our basement will get flooded ... again.  We have lived her almost 18 years and the basement has flooded several times when the sump pump quit.  Not a pretty mess.

Tracey took my Blazer to work this morning in case we get the bad weather they say we might.  That’s OK with me ... I get to drive her new Hybrid car when she’s not looking!  Every year we seem to go through the same winter storm scare routine until the weathermen or whoever get used to the idea of snow falling in winter again.

You’ve probably already read my rant about jury duty.  At least the Federal Court has a web site and an 800 phone line to call to see if there are any trials scheduled.  Always before I have had to spend a morning at the courthouse in Pekin waiting to see if they needed anybody.  I’ve only been on one trial in court, but I have been through the selection process many times.  I pretty much know how to glare at the judge and lawyers so they won’t pick me.  You have to be careful though because the judge can throw you in the can if you glare at him/her too much.

Jury Duty

I am not peeved about the requirement of public service ... but about the administration of who gets selected.  Once again I have been tapped by the system to be a juror.  This time for the Federal District Court.  I am on call for the month of December.  So far it looks good as there are no trials scheduled for the first week of December.  I don’t mind doing my duty or my fair share.  But this is getting a little old.  Last year I spent a week on the Coroner’s Jury in Tazewell County.  The year before that I was up for Petit Jury but I begged off because I didn’t want to leave the boys home alone for a week that summer.  All in all I think this is my 6th time serving or being asked to serve on one jury or another.  I know a lot of people who have never been required to do it even once.  I think everyone should serve on a jury at least once.  It is an educational experience.  I don’t think anyone should be forced to do it a second time until everyone else has done it at least once.  So ... don’t commit any federal crimes in the near future because I know of at least one disgruntled juror.
