12/13/06 Quote «The Legel Report»
And what is a good citizen? Simply one who never says, does or thinks anything that is unusual. Schools are maintained in order to bring this uniformity up to the highest possible point. A school is a hopper into which children are heaved while they are still young and tender; therein they are pressed into certain standard shapes and covered from head to heels with official rubber-stamps.
H. L. Mencken

I have to say the award hoopla at Tremont yesterday disturbed me on so many different levels. The most curious of which is the thought that if Tremont is among the best —— what are the worst like? And just what is Tremont the best at? I have struggled with the idiocy of this school system for 13 years now and I am left flabbergasted that they should be rewarded for their mediocrity.

Tracey’s countdown is in the final days —— she left at 4:30 this morning for her last 12 (more like 14) hour shift in Peoria. After Friday she is supposed to be done with Peoria but I have some doubts about that really happening because I don’t think they have clue one about what Tracey has been doing there.

I am already envious of her new job though because she tells me she HAS to go to a meeting in Las Vegas some time in March. Don’t you just hate having to go to meetings like that?

Ben is our gadget person in the family and he recently bought a paper shredder. It is just a small one that was on sale at Staple’s.

Lately we hear a lot of whirring grinding noises coming from his room as he cheerfully shreds the junk mail for the day —— along with whatever else he can find. The simple pleasures are the best.

Here is an example of the lunacy that “zero tolerance” perpetuates upon our society when a photograph of a weapon is treated with the same severity as a real weapon.

It also highlights that “zero tolerance” only applies to certain people. I was reminded of this during the break at my recent #JuryDuty experience. The jurors were told time and again that we absolutely could not have any PDA devices or cell telephones.

During the break —— the attorneys and court employees all pulled out their PDAs and cell phones.

I guess those darn jurors can’t be trusted with anything except deciding whether or not to send somebody to jail?

The student in this article will be eligible to go die in Iraq soon after he graduates —— and will presumably be holding a weapon if he does so. So it is OK to send young people to die in Iraq but not acceptable to have a picture of a sword in their yearbook?

Did Aaron like his hair? I did not get a call so I guess Tracey had no problems with doing his hair?
Carolyn 13 Dec 2006, 7:30 a.m.
Hi Carolyn! What a nice surprise to hear from you! Yes —— Aaron is delighted. I’m not sure why he wants straight hair so badly but he has it now and is very happy about it. Now he wants to let it grow longer. I guess so he will have enough to cover his eyes? I don’t know.

I posted his picture yesterday so you can see how good it turned out. There was still just a little curl left in a couple places but some wet combing and letting it dry have been enough to conquer those. Thanks for your help.

GREAT PICTURE! Thanks a million!

Don’t you know that people always want what they don’t have...Ashley has the most beautiful, thick curls! I would love to have some of those curls. What does she want...straight hair! A friend of hers had an extra hair straightener and gave it to her. She straightened and straightened -- until the newness wore off. It took time and patience to straighten her hair all the time. (patience is not her best virtue) Now, she straightens it occasionally. It sure changes her look when she has straight hair vs. curls.

We’re having the “in-laws xmas” here next Tues. night so lots to do AND all the snow has melted into our basement! Just the mess I wanted when I’m trying to get the house cleaned up! Oh well, guess I’ll just keep plugging along.
Have a good night.

Did my comment get to you? I sent it earlier this evening (around 7ish)

Good luck at your new job Tracey!
