Hightower: Saving The Nastiness Of War For You
08 Mar 2007, 6:03 a.m.
I made a couple phone calls yesterday in an attempt to sort out the insurance red tape that is supposed to help us pay for Noah’s dental work tomorrow.

I always feel like the straight man to some warped comedy routine when I talk to these people on the phone. Every question I ask you can hear them turning pages in their Q & A book.

Once you get caught in the circular logic they will then send you back into transfer-the-call Hell so you can talk to somebody else that is clueless. They can quite easily answer the question - “Does the insurance cover this?” It is when you ask any further questions that it gets mysterious.

Questions like “How much will get paid?” - or - “What DOES this insurance cover?” are more apt to be greeted with the empty sound of pages being turned, dead silence, or a sullen - “I dunno!” If you ask for someone who does know something, they act like you are getting all nasty on them.

I finally asked one helpful young lady why SHE was answering the phone since it was obvious she knows nothing about insurance coverage. She giggled and said, “It’s my job!” And then it dawned on me all over again, that IS her job. To confuse, obfuscate and misdirect. It has to be. It couldn’t be this ridiculously stupid by accident.

cognitive dissonance
Function: noun
: psychological conflict resulting from simultaneously held incongruous beliefs and attitudes

That pretty well sums up the world of America today. Take away freedoms to protect freedom. Cut down the trees to save the forest. Etc.

These two pages were in the same recent edition of the Washington Post, pages A12 and A13:

And now another glaring reason why Faux News can be so infuriating. I think everyone knows why Libby was on trial, the crime, and who committed it. But Faux News has to inject their usual right wing BS into the equation:

Great picture today!

Yep, gotta “love” those insurance companies!

Print the picture and hang it in your garage or basement, anywhere you might have trouble with mice. One look at that picture and they run away in fright!
