At regular intervals we see on TV or read in the paper about some aspect of global warming. Whether it is a polar bear stranded, a huge ice shelf melting off into the sea, an island sinking underwater, a population without drinking water after the local glacier disappeared. Still the GQP mantra continues that it is all a political ploy by Al Gore. I have been jousting with some folks on the Journal Star comment pages about this subject and their utter ignorance is astounding. It doesn’t help matters when our government backs companies like Exxon which pays once respected scholars to lie about the subject.

This subject continues to get more ridiculous by the day. Now we have somebody trying to hide behind the Fifth Amendment and yet making this statement:
In a letter sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Monica Goodling’s lawyer said she would not testify because senators have already decided that wrongdoing occurred.
The Fifth Amendment says nothing about whether anyone has already made any decisions in a case. If someone has been murdered, the judge and jury already know a crime has been committed.
Witnesses don’t get to plead the Fifth just because that decision is self-evident. They only get to plead the Fifth if their testimony will INCRIMINATE themselves. So this witness has said, in effect, “I am guilty of something and I don’t want to talk about it.” Looks like another GQP middle person being thrown to the wolves like Scooter Libby was.
