Tracey is off to work early this morning and she probably won’t get off in time to have dinner with us this evening. She is getting burned out again.
I went to get the a/c re-charged on the van yesterday but was told they couldn’t work on it without an $80 retrofit because they no longer use the R15 refrigerant. I suspect we will simply put up with no a/c because I don’t want to spend that much money. Yes —— I am a tightwad!
Looks like we are in for another cloudy, cool and probably rainy day. Suits me. I would rather not have to pay the electric bill for cooling the house like we did the first part of the week.
I could get used to a few cool days mixed in with a few warm days all summer long. I think it will eventually just get hot though and then we either pay to be cool —— or sweat.

Andy is getting his haircut today and he informed me that every time he gets a haircut, it’s raining. (in the last year) Guess his hair appts. should be made carefully!
Countdown to Disney....7 days! Guess I should start thinking about getting myself organized.

Wow! Andy should coordinate with the local farmers on the haircut appointments —— seems to me there could be some money to be made on that one!
What’s to organize. Throw your toothbrush and some clothes into a pillow case and off you go!

Hey Cousin, Tammy sent me the link the other day and I finally had a chance to check out your blog. Nice! I have thought about doing one but I am too lazy to find all the interesting things to add to it. I have not done it in a while but I think YOU can still by the old refrigerant and put it in. They just are not allowed to or alternatively some of the small shops will do it if you purchase the old style refrigerant and bring it to them to add it. I ran into the same problem with my Bronco. I would have to check but I might still have a refill kit to do it. The other thing is that the new refrigerant supposedly eats the old seals.but if the alternative is no air I might try charging it and then replace the o-rings next year if you get a leak. The bad thing is the new stuff does not cool as well. Bob Killion

Hi Bob! Good to hear from you. I’ll probably just do without the a/c. We don’t drive the van all that much anymore anyway. I suspect Aaron or Ben will be driving it some after they get their license this summer. If it gets to be an “issue” we will see what we can do. My first transportation didn’t have a/c. It was a VW bug and it barely even had heat. We used to have a scrapper hanging from the mirror to scrape the inside of the windshield. I doubt my boys would believe that either!

Well if you decide to try to fill it let me know and I will scrounge around for that refill kit. I think I know where it is but so many things have been in storage and shipped all over I am not sure. I believe you ... I had a Suzuki samurai with a soft top and I had to huddle around the one vent to try to get some heat and I often had to scrape the inside once my breath started freezing on it.
We are in the process of adjusting to the idea of the kids driving. Cody has his license and Charissa can get her’s anytime she is ready. Both hope to buy a car this summer. We delayed dealing with this because they could not drive in Spain but it is time to pay the piper. Neither really needs a car as Cody lives on Campus at the U of I during the school year and Rissa will be living at Eureka but it would be nice to have them able to drive home rather than us having to go get them when the mood strikes them ... or they have to do laundry!

Scraper hung from the mirror ... boy it must of been h--- living in the dinosaur days!
My first vehicle was a 1967 Ford station wagon that had little blue paint left on the hood. It developed a gas leak while I was working downtown (Morton), fire dept. was called, hosed my car down and parking lot, then it was towed away -- all without me knowing it AND it was xmas eve!
When I called to tell my dad that I “lost” my car, he said I drank too much cold duck that day! My dad finally found out about the car at the police station. So, it spent the remainder of it’s days propped up on the curb out in front of our house.

The old VW had an air cooled engine so there was no radiator or heater core to hold the engine heat. So you had to wait until the engine was really warmed up before you got any heat at all —— if you ever did get any!
