It is of interest to note that while some dolphins are reported to have learned English -- up to fifty words used in correct context -- no human being has been reported to have learned dolphinese.

We started the LIST last evening. You know ... the list of stuff to
do and pack for vacation. I dont know why that seems necessary but we do
it every time. In the old days we did it so we knew we had turned the
coffee pot off, etc. Since Noah will be house-sitting for us that wont be
a problem. We also need to make a list of the things Noah is supposed to
do. We are confident Denise will make sure he takes good care of Jake and
Chris-bird.
Unfortunately one of the things at the top of the list is to check and make sure our flight hasn’t been cancelled. We are flying Northwest Airlines and in the past couple weeks they have cancelled many of their flights due to a “pilot shortage”. Northwest and the media are doing their best to paint this picture as a problem caused by their pilots not “making themselves available” for extended overtime. Meaning they don’t wish to fly airplanes when they haven’t had enough rest. Even though it may mean our vacation gets screwed up — I am on the pilots’ side on this. There really isn’t any reason this multi-billion dollar enterprise can’t afford to hire enough pilots to fly their overbooked airplanes. It is just simple greed that causes problems for the customers and they are trying to blame it on their workers. Typical corporate antics.
Another part of our preparations will be to make sure we have some candy to
carry on the plane in case anybody needs a little jolt to the blood sugar.
Since they now charge $3 for a couple ounces of soda, etc. ... we wont be
eating or drinking during the flight except what we can carry on board. It
is interesting that they have banned bottled water as a security threat just
about the same time the airlines started charging for coffee and soft
drinks. What a racket.
07:05 a.m. Tammy Sure hope you
still have wings for vacation! We flew Air Tran and Delta. We were
offered a free drink and snack during the flight. We had cookies the
morning we left for Atlanta, pretzels between Atlanta & Orlando, and then
cheese and crackers on the way home. Seems like you should get the
same!
Off to work for me today. The last Oooey Gooey Tuesday!
Then Im off until the Tues. after Labor Day. Off means: clean
classroom, change wall stuff, put out different toys, parent meetings, open
house for new kids, etc....

We shall see ... the worst thing would be to get a flight to Minnesota and
then get stranded there! I dont know for sure about the food and drink
but I know that Northwestern has been one of the leaders in no frill
flights. At the rate they are going we will be required to provide our own
parkas and oxygen tanks because it would be cheaper not to heat or pressurize
the flight cabin. Tracey flew Alligiant Air to Vegas and they provided no
food or drink without a fee. Tracey said she hates those little bathrooms
(she saw a show about a woman who got her butt sucked into one!) so she
would rather not drink anything so she doesnt have to got to the bathroom until
she gets back on the ground.
Have some Oooey Gooey Fun!
12:20 p.m. Bob Killion Hope your
flight works out well. We have had mixed success on flights even from the
same airline. One time they will offer free food and drinks, the next want
us to pay for it, and the next maybe not offer anything at all. Mind you,
this was the SAME destination and airline. Good luck!
I noticed you
had Mr. Flatleys obit. His youngest son Tim was one of my best friends
and I knew Mr. and Mrs. Flatley as well as many of the kids though the closest
after time was 5 years older. Mrs. Flatley was a sweetheart and Mr.
Flatley was a character. One summer Tim and I were hanging out in the
backyard wondering what we would do after high school. We decided we would
head to Florida, Hawaii, or California and be Beach Bums. Suddenly from the back
of the yard in the garden Mr. Flatleys voice booms out all you guys need is a
beach! He was always a riot and Holly and I stopped by to see them when
we came back for a visit before we headed for Spain. They were both great
then but it seems they went down hill quickly after that and had to move to
Springfield for help from the family. We will be heading down to the
visitation tomorrow.

I really didnt know the Flatleys well at all ... I just delivered their
newspaper and talked with them only a little when collecting payment.
Brother Alan knew them better as he was closer to the same age as a couple of
the girls. I habitually read the obits and probably shouldnt as it is
never good news to read of the death of someone you know. It is quite a
reminder of our own mortality.
03:04 p.m. Tammy I always p with my
feet firmly planted on the ground!! :) To tell you the truth, Ive
never even seen a bathroom in an airplane and thats fine by me!
Maybe you should look into attractions in Minnesota -- ha ha!
Hopefully all will go well.
I know what you mean -- I read those darn obits. every day
too!
