We fit through there with our big ol’ truck but it seemed like it was “just barely”. That road is now all paved and the tunnel two lanes wide, but twenty years ago it was an adventure to drive that narrow gravel road in the middle of a rocky canyon. You wouldn’t think the difference between a narrow rocky single lane road and modern asphalt would change the scenery so too much —— but it sure does.

I share this article for two reasons —— to point out that fewer than 300 insurgents per month are NOT causing all the trouble in Iraq and —— it is our supposed allies who are responsible for the paltry number of insurgents. The real issue is when is this sorry excuse for an American government going to realize we can’t stop the sectarian violence that has ruled this region for at least 3,000 years and get our people out of there?

Have you tried to watch the news on TV lately? Here we are almost a year away from election day and ALL you see on the news is politics —— and all you see in the commercials are old Christmas commercials.

What is it with these companies that they can’t afford new commercials? I guess they think we are too simple to remember having seen the same darn jewelry or cologne commercial for the past 5 years or more.

I am currently fighting off a couple of those phony orange lady bugs that showed up here a few years ago (not necessarily the same two bugs but maybe?)

This year wasn’t as bad as some years past, but we have had our fair share of the little pests. I have been turning on a couple lights in the sun room to keep them in there early in the morning. Otherwise my little computer light and screen are enough light at four in the morning to attract the little monsters and they bounce around the light bulb and computer screen until one of them eventually lands in my coffee. Yech!

This morning though I have a couple of adventurers who keep flying between rooms and I may have to take drastic action. I hate to squish the little monsters cuz they stink so much when you do that. We have also had a few spiders make their way into the house for the winter.

Tracey had a large one trying to share her blanket with her last evening. She had no problem with smashing him. Unfortunately the little spider corpse landed on Jake and we all know how scared he is of bugs —— he about jumped out of his skin over that little dead spider.
