The first of our roofing salesman arrived yesterday. We need some major work done up on our roof. We have shingles that are getting so brittle a few tabs blow away every wind storm and a couple sections where the plywood is beginning to buckle. Ive called four different roofing contractors so far. Only one of them actually had somebody answer the phone ... the other three had answering machines. It was after 4:00 when I called on Monday. The first one here is the fellow from the place who actually answered the phone so hes two credits ahead. I also have another appointment next Tuesday with one of the answering machine places. Unfortunately I think I may have to dock this first guy about half a credit for unnecessary sales pressure. He was just a bit too aggressive in trying to wedge in what he wanted to tell me rather than answer my questions. He also didnt bring a ladder and never set foot on the roof. He did borrow a flashlight to go up in our attic and tried to see if the sagging area needed new lumber or just raised and reinforced. I suppose it is a lot to ask but it seems to me a roofing salesman ought to climb up on the roof to actually inspect what he is estimating? Maybe not, but it is more impressive to me. We will see what the others do. I wont be calling the remaining two back though. If they cant return a call to a prospective new customer I suspect they could care less about you after the check has cleared. Probably get a tail light warranty from them. When their tail lights are gone ... your warranty is up.
