| I missed the memo. I thought Noah had overslept yesterday morning and went knocking on his door at 6 a.m. It was the first day of his new job and he didnt need to get out of bed until 6:45. Oops, Sorry! I meant well. I remember him telling me about the job promotion but missed the part about sleeping in an extra hour. He is now part of the Help Desk for the City of Greenville, S. C., Volvo, Fuji Film and some other place I have forgotten already. Instead of just turning in trouble tickets he actually fixes things for people which he says is more fun than just typing it up for others to solve. He got a pay raise to go along with the new job so it is actually a promotion rather than a shuffle. Of course he would have been making considerably more to do the same job 15 years ago but with this new and improved economy he isnt worth as much because some peasant in Bangladesh will do it for almost nothing. Not that they want them doing it, they tried and it didnt work, but they can always hold it over the Americans head. Hopefully this will give him a bit more pocket money just the same. I know he really wants to move out and get his own place, but with the car payment he cant afford to yet. When I was his age I was working at the lowest wage Caterpillar paid, had a brand new car in my very own garage that came with the house I bought at age 20. But that was 35 years ago when most of the country could earn a living wage around here. Before RayGunomics. |

Little Johnny Little Johnny grew up in the city, and went to visit his Uncle Joe on the farm. For the first few days, his uncle showed him the usual things- chickens, cows, crops, etc. After three days, however, it was obvious that Little Johnny was getting bored, and his uncle was running out of things to amuse him with. Finally, Uncle Joe had an idea. Why dont you grab a gun, take the dogs, and go shooting? This seemed to cheer Little Johnny up, and with enthusiasm, off he went, dogs in trail. After a few hours, Little Johnny returned. How did you enjoy that? asked Uncle Joe. It was great! exclaimed Little Johnny. Got any more dogs? |
