Much learning does not teach understanding.
Heraclitus
Our roof is finished!  Unfortunately they wanted paid for it today too :-[

I deposited our “Stimulus Check” yesterday and it will all go to the roofers and then some.  On the bright side I stopped at a place called Chicago Hut in Pekin and had a gyro for lunch.  Good Stuff!  The sign just happened to catch my eye and I dimly remembered something about this place and gyros ... so I stopped.  I was really surprised at how good it was and how much they served me.  I was so full I had to take a nap as soon as I got home!

Tracey returned home from her Effingham trip in the early evening and immediately went out to play on her new scooter.  She drove it around in the yard for a while but still hasn’t quite got the hang of making a u-turn tight enough.  I’m sure it doesn’t help to be learning out there on the slick grass.

I am slowly catching up on the bills, emails, blog, etc. that were all neglected during our vacation.  I have to do some shopping in the near future because we are almost out of any kind of food in the house altogether.  The boys are reduced to eating cereal for lunch, not so bad since they don’t get out of bed until almost noon anyway and thus lunch is really breakfast .....

California

Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, 158 years ago?

  1. California became a state.
  2. The state had no electricity.
  3. The state had no money.
  4. Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
  5. There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically, it was just like California is today, except the women had real boobs and the men didn’t hold hands.
