In this photo released by the the National Park Service (NPS), a stranded rafter is lowered to shore by an NPS employee after being short hauled across the Colorado River Sunday Aug. 17, 2008 in the Grand Canyon. An earthen dam broke near the Grand Canyon early Sunday after heavy rains that forced officials to pluck hundreds of residents and campers from the gorge by helicopter. A private boating party of 16 people was stranded on a ledge at the confluence of Havasu Creek and the Colorado River after flood waters carried their rafts away. The boaters were found uninjured and were being rescued from the canyon, whose floor is unreachable in many places except by helicopter.
A duck walks into a pub and orders a pint of beer and a ham sandwich.
The landlord looks at him and says, But youre a duck.
You noticed then, quips the duck.
And you talk! exclaims the landlord.
Of course I can talk, says the duck. Now can I have my beer and my sandwich please?
Certainly, says the landlord, Sorry about that, its just that we dont get many ducks in this pub. What are you doing around this way?
Im working on the building site across the road, explains the duck. Then the duck drinks his beer, eats his sandwich and leaves.
This continues for 2 weeks. Then one day the circus comes to town.
The ringleader of the circus comes into the pub and the landlord says to him, Youre with the circus arent you? I know this duck that would be brilliant in your circus. He talks, drinks beer and everything!
Sounds marvellous, says the ringleader, Get him to give me a call.
So the next day when the duck comes into the pub the landlord says, Hey Mr. Duck, I reckon I can line you up with a top job paying really good money!
Yeah? says the duck, Sounds great, where is it?
At the circus, says the landlord.
The circus? the duck enquires.
Thats right, replies the landlord.
The circus?
Yes!
That place with the big tent?
Yeah!
With all the animals?
Of course!
With the big canvas roof with the hole in the middle, asks the duck.
Thats right, says the landlord.
The duck now looking confused replied:- What the heck would they want with a plasterer?
Tracey worked late yesterday so she didnt have to go in to work until noon. We rode our bikes to Woodys in Groveland for some breakfast.
Aaron & Ben had to go in to see their so-called counselor to beg to have their class schedules changed. Ben managed to ditch the building trades class. He really didnt want to be free labor for the school. He couldnt get the desktop publishing class he wanted because they discontinued that class and ended up with Intro to Business instead. Ben is still upset they changed his Home Room ... he couldnt keep the one he had because they changed everyone. Right. Sounds like another good excuse to me. Aaron was scheduled to take a class he had already taken last year so Im guess this counselor isnt paying too much attention to detail.

She never did pay attention, but its also the software she uses--it sucks at keeping track of things. The school really should have someone build a simply Access database or SQL database to manage grades and classes, but they are using some fancy educational management crap that the County liked, and its not cheap, as I recall. Another example of how tax money is going to waste.

Hi Noah => And I agree about the over-priced software. This is the result of computer illiterate people making decisions about what software to buy for computers. They consistently get sold a bill of goods from the first salesman who comes along ... and often times the salesman doesnt know anything about what they are selling. There is often the same mistakes made in buying equipment. The Journal Star has the slowest servers in the area and every time I write to them they complain about the software. I dont think it is the software because at 4 a.m. everything works fine ... but during business hours it sucks. I think that is because they simply dont have the bandwidth and server capacity to keep up with the demand.
Say Hey to Denise and have a great day to both of you!
