Researchers in Germany have used a modern medical procedure to uncover a secret within one of ancient Egypt’s most treasured artworks — the bust of Nefertiti has two faces. The differences between the faces, though slight — creases at the corners of the mouth, a bump on the nose of the stone version — suggest to Dr. Alexander Huppertz, director of the Imaging Science Institute at Berlin’s Charite hospital and medical school, that someone expressly ordered the adjustments between stone and stucco when royal sculptors immortalized the wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten 3,300 years ago.

Tracey & I went out to the Cracked Barrel with DD and Mom as usual last night. We stayed at Mom’s much later than we usually do and talked a lot about the apparent insanity and ignorance of our society at large.
I had forgotten to mention our recent fun with phones. Last Thursday the boys were over two hours late getting home from school. Neither of them had their cell phones with them so we couldn’t get hold of them.
We had a “Be No” meeting with them after they got home, explaining there would be be no more wandering off after school without letting us know first.
They deftly turned the conversation back on us by explaining their phones didn’t work properly. So we spent Friday evening at the phone store after I discovered their phone contracts were up and they qualified for discounted phones if we renewed their contracts.
Imagine turning two 17-year-old boys loose in a cell phone store! I told them I would pay half of the cost but I wouldn’t pay any more than $50 for my half —— the rest was up to them. And I wouldn’t pay anything for any new services like text messaging, etc.
So they didn’t get very expensive phones since they had some skin in the game and were much more exact in their questions and choice.
Now we will see if they remember to have them with them and turned on when we want to get hold of them.
