Here’s a line of thought I picked up at the DailyKos:
Repuglicans claim they would be disenfranchised if Dimocrats were allowed to pass laws in the U.S. Senate without a supermajority, but you need only look at the actual votes cast for senators to figure out where the real supermajority is.
Here are the numbers, including votes cast for appointees’ predecessors in CO, DE, IL, and NY:
Votes cast for the 40 Repuglican senators: 44,200,000
Votes cast for the 60 Democratic senators: 82,300,000
If you subtract votes cast for the 5 Democratic senators who would consider supporting filibuster, their vote total drops to 79,800,000. Whether or not you do that, though, the bottom-line is that nearly twice as many people voted for Dimocratic senators as Repuglicans.
The next time Repuglicans want to whine about getting disenfranchised, they oughta’ take it up with the voters who put the Dimocrats in office.
It is a rather different turn of logic than we are accustomed to but the truth nonetheless. Repuglican Senators tend to represent very conservative areas with lower population. That, in fact, is why the founding fathers created the Senate —— to balance the House which is based on population.

I noticed things are all tore up in the lot next to the Staples in Pekin —— anybody know what they are building there? Seems odd to build new with all the empty buildings already sitting around town.

Good morning. We made it through the week, but it was difficult at times. There were over 900 people at the visitation. The funeral was very nice. Well, as “nice” as they can be. Still so hard to believe that Stephanie has left this world at the age of 41! Way too young! I’m glad that her pain and suffering are over though.
Dave and Andy just left on the motorcycle. They are headed for the parade and then the riverfront. Dave rides in the parade every year for Grand Nationals Weekend.
This is Andy’s first time for going with him. I just have one tiny little problem.....I DON’T like my boy and 2 wheels together! Dave’s motorcycle is not the best for passengers. He usually (almost always) rides alone so he didn’t worry much about the “passenger seat” when he bought this bike. And, of course, it’s not cool to hang onto your dad!
I’ve got all of my fingers and toes crossed! I won’t have a nail left on my fingers by the time 1:00 or so rolls around. They are coming home then. Dave will head back out for the riverfront later for the Little River Band concert. Long day of worries for me!
