I woke up thinking about how much #IllinoisCycle is charging us to replace a rear tire and change the oil in Tracey’s scooter. I couldn’t get back to sleep for thinking about it.
They are charging almost $350. Something like three hours of labor at $90 an hour. They changed the same tire last year for a little less than $160. And I thought that was high.
I was going to ride my MP3 over to swap with them and pick Tracey’s up —— so they could change the tire and oil on mine too. That’s not going to happen now.
I will be sharing the details of this unhappy transaction with anyone who will listen. People need to know how they do business.

Mom has been having some pain in her knee for a few months now. Yesterday we went to see an ortho doctor to see if he could help with that pain.
They took some xrays of her knees and I couldn’t help but take a picture —— Mom said I could share. It’s not every day you get see your mother’s legs this naked!

And......did they discover why the pain? Bone rubbing bone or something? To get a motorcycle/scooter worked on around here is ridiculous. I don’t think it’s any cheaper to get them worked on here in Morton either. Dave has used J R Riddle Racing on Detroit before for tires. I think part of the problem is that there’s not many places that work on them so they can charge what they want to charge. Not enough competition.

Hi Tammy, They took some xrays of Mom’s hips too and the doctor decided it was arthritis in the hip that was causing her pain in the knee. Sounds weird to me but that is what he said.
She is taking Ibuprofen for the pain and we go back in three weeks if that doesn’t help. They can’t really do anything to fix it —— only treat the pain. Unless she wants to go to the hospital to get cortisone shots or a hip replacement.

The problem with #IllinoisCycle is there is no way a competent mechanic would take three hours to change a tire and change the oil. And it is my opinion that nearly $90 an hour for labor is not appropriate to repair a 250cc scooter.
It is NOT a Rolls Royce for goodness sake. I will be going elsewhere for sure or doing it myself. Once I get an itemized bill I will be sharing it as a cautionary tale to customers and businesses alike.
You can get charged a lot of money if you don’t ask up front and you can lose a lot of customers if you charge too much.

I forgot to mention Tracey arrived back home around 7 p.m. last evening after two days of very boring meetings in Westchester, IL. She has to make this journey at least once a year.

Thats ridiculous for an oil change and tire! I’ve been in #IllinoisCycle a few times to look at bikes but I definitely won’t be buying anything from them. We have had good luck with cupi’s motormall in pekin for tires on the four-wheelers and i think they charge a set fee for mount and balance. I could be wrong but you may try them next time.

Hi Kyle, Feel free to spread the word. I can hope that if enough people take their business elsewhere #IllinoisCycle may change their business practice —— or go out of business.

Occasionally it goes all the way down the thigh to the knee (“referred pain”. This is because the hip and knee have an overlapping nerve supply. Thank You Michael, I will be looking for somebody to take mine to but first I want to get Tracey’s home and squared away. I’ve also talked to Grayboy in Peoria but they seem a bit reluctant without first seeing it. We’ll find somebody! Thanks for the help!
