Alan and Gloria joined Mom, DD, Tracey and me at the Bob Evans in E. Peoria. While we were there Gloria received a phone call (I think it was from Tom). She told us a building in Morton was on fire near the Chinese food buffet. We could see a column of thick black smoke from that direction when we drove home. We had our usual discussions at Moms trailer but also spent some time discussing religion. It was interesting - as always!

Ashley worked yesterday at the library. When they were locking up to leave around 5:20ish, they could see the smoke and really smell something burning. It made one of the library ladies check the copy machines because it was so strong of a smell.
Anyway, the old Morton Welding where Dave began his career was on fire. Its housed Lumberyard Suppliers for quite some time now though. Parts of the buildings are old too since I think Morton Welding began there in the 40s or something like that - maybe even earlier. I graduated from h.s. with the son of the company starter.
I havent seen the building but the fire looked like it was really going. Bummer when history is lost.
I hope they rebuild so that jobs arent lost. My boss at the preschools oldest son worked at LS for a few years. He left there to start his own construction/remodeling business.
Off to my dads to celebrate my baby brothers bday today. He turned 45 today.

Good Morning Tammy, We could see it was a large fire by the plume of thick black smoke but we decided not to go see because we were sure there were enough gawkers already getting in the way. I didnt envy the firefighters having to handle those wet hoses with the cold temperatures. I wonder if we will ever find out what started the fire?
