I noticed today is the anniversary of the Peace Symbol. Here’s a link back to the 2008 fifty-year anniversary and a good explanation of the history of this symbol adopted by hippies and peaceniks around the world.
Forty-four years ago today I was out on my bicycle collecting money on my newspaper route. I had just finished for the evening and went to the Pat & Sam’s Market in Marquette Hts. to buy some goodies with some of my loot for the week.
I recall walking into the store and everyone was standing still —— the radio was playing on the intercom and it was news of Martin Luther King’s assassination. I remember being irked because I wanted to get my Suzy Q and soda paid for so I could get home before it got too late, and nobody was working the register.
They were all just standing there talking about this announcement. I was too young then to understand what had really happened. But I remember that day still. I wish I had been old enough to fully understand the news I had watched up until that day and I wish now that this country had learned a lesson from the man who died. I’m not sure we have.

I can’t believe my “baby boy” is 23 years young today! My how time just flies by! Kind of weird though - we’ve always gone out to dinner or had a bday dinner that the bday person picked. No dinner with the bday boy today. He is coming home in 2 days, but still, the tradition is broke! That’s the hard part of having your children grow up and out of the house...traditions and changes!
Also, my “baby girl” is flying (ALL ALONE!) today. She is flying from Peoria to Dallas to Gulfport/Biloxi, MS. YIKES!
I sure hope all goes well for her. I will be a nervous wreck today until she gets there - especially after the weather Dallas had yesterday. I’m pretty sure strong storms are forecast for Gulfport today. Sure hope the skies have a clear path for her about 3:30 - 5:30 today! Well, if I’m asking for clear skies, let’s ask for 12:15 - 5:30! Get some coffee and have a good day.

Just when you think our judicial system couldn’t get any more politicized you get a tin horn judge like this jerk demanding letters of explanation like it was homework or something —— even telling them it must be “three pages, single spaced”.
A federal judge on Tuesday expressed concern over President Obummer’s comments on the Supreme Court’s consideration of the health care law and demanded a letter explaining whether Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. believes federal judges have the authority to strike down federal laws.
Judge Jerry Smith, a Repuglican appointee on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, was part of a three-judge panel hearing arguments in a lawsuit over the Affordable Care Act when he issued his unusual demand, saying the Justice Department must submit the three-page, single-spaced letter by noon Thursday.
Hi Tammy, Wishing for a great (and safe) trip for your “baby girl”! We really miss birthdays and occasions with Noah too —— all a part of that empty nest thing I guess.

Ok, Ashley left here at 10:30 with my dad headed for the Peoria airport. Of course, the flight to Dallas was delayed to the point that she’d miss her connection in Dallas and that would be the last flight for the night to Gulfport, MS. She went to the American ticket counter and said “HELP!” Here’s the plan now:
Left Peoria at 1:00 on American Eagle to Chicago. Left Chicago at 4:20 on US Airways headed for Charlotte, NC. Leaving Charlotte at 7 tonight headed for Gulfport/Biloxi, MS. Arriving finally at 9 tonight --- I HOPE!
Sure hope the weather and all settles down for her flight home! If all goes well, she’ll return American from Gulfport to Dallas to Peoria!
