I must say I was mesmerized by the traffic stories on the news last evening about the snow and ice in the south east. In story after story they told of people abandoning their cars to walk home or to some place of safety.
The temperature was about 30°F and the snow was about three inches deep. Crazy. I realize these folks don’t have much experience with winter driving, but seriously? Just walk off and leave your car in the middle of the road?
Each person interviewed was asked if they had heard the warnings. Hadn’t they been told to stay off the roads? And each of them had some excuse why they thought they could beat the storm or that it had come upon them too quickly.
The storm arrived almost to the minute that it had been forecast to arrive. They had been notified almost two days before the event. They just didn’t listen. I laughed out loud at the woman who walked less than a mile and proclaimed it was too dangerous for a person to live in weather like that.
Thirty Degrees? She claimed she had to be treated for frostbite. After twenty minutes in 30°F weather? That is just plain goofy.
