One evening I was out collecting money from my customers and on the way by I noticed Jim in the shadows of his garage.
I naturally went over to visit with him.
He sipped a clear liquid from a glass jar then passed the jar to another man. As soon as Jim saw me, he put the jar down on the workbench and immediately walked toward me.
I was told to move along. There was nothing for a young boy to see. He wouldn’t listen to questions. Just move right along.
I couldn’t imagine why drinking water out of jar was a big deal, but of course, years later I surmised that it was not water. I suspect it was probably some home-brew of some kind, but I will never know for sure.
I mostly remember being quite perplexed and disappointed.
#PoliceMurder Watching the news last evening I was infuriated (literally shouting at the TV infuriated) when their coverage of the two LA County deputies being shot was presented.
Several times they said things like “unprovoked attack”, “cowardly ambush”, “senseless killing”. What infuriated me was you will NEVER hear these words spoken about the same actions when perpetrated by the police.
A non-white person is murdered or maimed by the police state almost every day across this country. Unprovoked?
In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, The Times has compiled a database of cases where people died at the hands of law enforcement in Los Angeles County.
Since 2000, there have been nearly 900 killings by local police that were ruled a homicide by county medical examiners. Almost all of the dead were men, nearly 80% were black or Latino. More than 98% were shot to death.
So in the county where these deputies worked, they KILL three to four people A MONTH. Unprovoked?
Police kill people regularly for “crimes against property” yet they regularly knock down doors, ransack homes, and crash cars in police chases. Imagine if people had qualified immunity to shoot them for those “crimes against property”
Cops regularly rob people. It is called asset forfeiture.
A handful of small Los Angeles County cities seize large amounts of cash and cars using a controversial federal law that allows them to confiscate property even when owners aren’t charged with a crime, according to a report published by an advocacy group that promotes decriminalization of drugs.
Unprovoked? In one small county of LA they regularly attack and rob the citizens, yet when two of their deputies get shot it is suddenly worthy of nationwide news coverage?
I think I know why those two deputies were shot.
And it is likely to get worse in the coming weeks and months.
