Customers that subscribed by mail were a “good news, bad news” story.
It was good that I didn’t go knocking on their doors to get paid.
It was bad that I rarely got any tips or Christmas gifts from them.
And since we had no regular contact, if they had any complaints, they were liable to call the circulation department rather than call me. I would get a talk from my manager and a ding on my record as a paper carrier.
The Journal Star was always pushing us to encourage customers to pay in the office, but I resisted for the most part. The only area I really wanted to be PIO was Beloit Rd. in Cinderella Village as it was detached from most of the rest of my route. It took longer to get to that part of the route and I hated having to make a couple trips a week to get paid.
Watched Korn Pop on the news last evening and his rant about climate change and how Twitler isn’t doing anything ——
My immediate reaction was, he was Vice President for eight years and didn’t do anything. In fact, he supported fracking then and still does. F’ing hypocrite.

Four years ago today I was taken to task by a Faithful Reader for predicting I would be shouting, “I told you so!” if Twitler won. I had more than a few people accuse me of supporting Twitler because I was so bitter about the DNC and HRC. I feel pretty much the same way now about Korn Pop, but I’m not as vocal about it. It didn’t help four years ago and I doubt it would help today.
