A warning box popped up on our thermostat telling us we needed to call our HVAC dealer because of Routine Maintenance Recommended.
After initial concern I remembered something like this happening before so I turned to the Internet for answers.
There are 4 basic alarms:
Critical Malfunction. The systems shuts off and wont run until whatever is busted is fixed.
System Malfunction. Something isnt working right and the system may or may not continue to function. You can dismiss this warning but it is likely something needs to be fixed.
Change or clean the filter(s). Pops up at intervals to remind you to clean the filters and can be dismissed.
Routine Maintenance Recommended. This is basically a scam. It is set up by the installer to generate the message every so many months (ours is evidently 13 months) to provide the installer with an excuse to make some money. The ONLY reason given for the warning is to call the installer for help. Wonder what they would suggest?
Several threads from independent HVAC repair and installers harped about how disreputable dealers use this to charge people to come to your house and push reset. (All it does is reset the message to return again at the preset interval.) Nothing is wrong.
