On this date in 2001 Islamic extremists are alleged to have perpetrated a series of coordinated suicide attacks upon America. They supposedly hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners and used them to attack the Pentagon and the World Trade Center causing the immediate death of 2,974 people not counting the 19 hijackers. America retaliated by invading Afghanistan and Iraq.
