In 1773, the British Parliament passed the Tea Act, which aimed to reduce the stocks of tea held by the financially troubled, British East India Company in its London warehouses, to undercut the price of illegal smuggled tea. The shipments caused outrage and led to the Boston Tea Party. #BostonTeaParty
