In 1768, Charlotte Corday (Marie-Anne Charlotte de Corday d’Armont) was born in Normandy, France. She was arrested, tried and guillotined, for killing French revolutionary Jacobin leader, Jean-Paul Marat, in his bath. During her trial, she testified that she had carried out the assassination alone.
