In 1863, the first thoroughbred horse races took place at the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, NY. Leave it to American high society to think they were the first to believe they bred horses specifically for racing. I suspect the Romans, Chinese, Egyptians, etc. from millennia ago would differ.  |
