In 1944, during World War Two, Allied paratroopers launched the failed Operation Market Garden, landing behind German lines in the Netherlands. (After initial success, the Allies were beaten back by the Germans.) British General Montgomery really tried to lose the war. This inept plan cost hundreds of lives and was doomed from the start.  |
