People make last minute preparations before the start of the feature presentation movie, To Wong Foo, on an inflatable screen at the Electric Dusk Drive In on June 9th, in Los Angeles, CA. The Electric Dusk Drive In began as the Devil’s Night Drive In on the rooftop of a nearby parking structure. It now takes place at the “urban ruins” in the downtown Fashion District, where now vanished manufacturing businesses have become the film sites of numerous movies. Like the original location, the current location is facing development but not imminently. Eventually, the “urban ruins” will go under the shovel for a massive development project of hotels, offices, apartments and a college campus costing as much as $1 billion as gentrification continues to spread through downtown Los Angeles where nights have been mostly populated by thousands of homeless people. |
