Putin won a resounding first round victory in Russia’s presidential election on Sunday, Mar. 4th, according to exit polls. Putin won 58.3% of the vote according to an exit poll from the state controlled VTsIOM research group. Putin’s opponents said voting in many parts of the vast country was skewed to help him return to the presidency after four years as prime minister. If confirmed, the results mean that Putin will reclaim the Kremlin post he occupied for two terms from 2000-2008. |
