America’s iconic Statue of Liberty arrived in New York 130 years ago. Here, the head of the Statue of Liberty can be seen on display in the garden at the Champ de Mars at the World’s Fair in Paris in 1878. It was put on display to help raise money to complete the project of building Lady Liberty. Though the parts of The Statue of Liberty arrived in New York June 17th, the statue didn’t open until October 28th, 1886 when it was officially dedicated as a gift to the U.S. from the people of France as a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
