A Meishan pig photographed at the Tierpark zoo in Berlin on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007. The zoo presented the Meishan Pig family as the good luck pig for the new year 2008. In Germany the pig is a traditional symbol of good luck at the beginning of a new year.

“In Germany the pig is a traditional symbol of good luck at the beginning of a new year.”

I looked at this picture, shuddered, and read the line above ... and it immediately reminded me of an old expression I had read years ago.

“Eat a live toad every morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day”
