Directing Traffic

At least once a week I run into somebody at a four-way stop who insists on waving other cars through the intersection. As if any of us need his/her permission to drive.

My reaction is almost always the same —— I fold my arms, lean back and wait for the idiot to clear the intersection if it is not my turn or I ignore them and drive if it is my turn. These people invariably try to coerce others to go when it is not their turn to go — to the consternation of the person who actually has the right-of-way.

Another instance of this absurd behavior is the attempt to stop and let someone cut in front of them on a busy street when the person doing the cutting can’t see what’s coming and is totally reliant on the supposed Good Samaritan.

I saw an awful wreck on Main St. E. Peoria because of this. A woman waved a guy across in front her to go into a gas station to her right. She didn’t bother to look in her rear view mirror to see another car barreling down the lane to the right of her and which the guy turning couldn’t see. Evidently trusting her with his safety, he cut in front of her as she directed and got T-boned. The so-called Good Samaritan drove on around the smoking wreckage and left.

Don’t trust these people with your safety —— I think they are more concerned with being Good Samaritans than with being safe drivers.
