I received an email from Brother Alan regarding a woman who is writing a book and she wanted to interview me about a comment I had made online at the Journal Star.

A while back I had commented on the situation where the suicidal guy with a knife was shot to death by the deputy.

So I called the number Alan forwarded to me and spoke with this woman for a while. She seemed to lose interest when I said I didn’t really want to be quoted. I’m no expert on cops and sure don’t want to upset any police departments in the area —— they have guns and they know where I live!

I am really surprised at the reaction I have been getting from that one short comment. Basically all I said was not to call the police unless you needed somebody to show up with lethal force. And that once you had called them, you can’t call them off.

I think too many people are expecting Andy from Mayberry to show up and they get Dirty Harry instead. Make my day.

If you are having a problem with a friend, a neighbor or a loved one, think twice before calling the cops —— when they arrive they won’t do what you tell them to and you may end up in jail yourself if you get upset about them whacking somebody with a stick, buzzing them with a taser, or shooting them.

You had better figure that once they show up —— somebody could go to jail and all that goes with that.

This woman asked me what I would do if a loved one was threatening themselves or others with a knife and I told her I would round up several good friends and/or family members —— grab several two by fours of good length and we would all start whacking away until the knife was dropped.

Better a few broken ribs than shot to death. Probably not what they would teach at the local mental health college, but it would work.

Another thought would be to get the local game warden guy to come over with his tranquilizer gun and dart them —— though that might end up being more dangerous than just whacking them with a sturdy board.

My best advice is to keep your crazy friends and relatives away from knives!

Later yesterday afternoon we went into Pekin to do some shopping and the cops had somebody pulled over on Broadway. Both coming and going.

I always get so disgusted when I see the police acting like highwaymen robbing people on the road. There can be no doubt in any thinking person’s mind that the ONLY reason the speed limit is 35 MPH through there is so the cops can pull you over for driving a reasonable speed. Why does everyone pretend otherwise? Disgusting.

I am less proud of America when I see these things.

I saw this clip on the evening news. When they said the “resource officer” had been put on administrative leave I blurted, “Why the hell wasn’t he fired and then charged with assault?”

I am continually baffled by our society which allows this kind of physical violence and pretends there need be any “investigation” of what everyone can clearly see is absolutely unwarranted physical assault. Had he slammed her down on her head she could well be dead.

came sauntering in. They walked right past the hostess stand and
sat down where they pleased. Replete in bloused camo stuffed in
jack boots, all four were skinheads and one of them was wearing
fingerless weighted leather gloves. One of them raised his hand to
motion to the waitress and demanded coffee and menus like he owned

The first time I can remember thinking cops had shown up
inappropriately was back in the mid 70s when a lumber yard
in Pekin burned down. My buddy and I showed up to watch
and it looked like every cop in Pekin was standing around
watching too, with their cars lit up like Christmas trees.

I thought then it would have been a good time to rob everybody
else in town because there were no cops on the job to catch
anybody, they were all standing around the fire looking
important and bothering people.

I may have told this story before, but ——

Once upon a time in the early 70s a buddy and I were driving up Court St. in Pekin and several cop cars came zooming past with the lights flashing. We saw them all turn in at the old Mr. Donut past the curve and they all pulled in. The lights went off. There was already another cop car in the lot.

My buddy and I looked at each and said, “No way!” at the same time.

We parked in the lot too and sure enough, when we walked in there were two tables full of cops ordering coffee and donuts.

The third and last time I called the cops it was to surrender a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition. Since we moved to town I had no use for them. I’ve had the gun for over forty years, but now that we live in town I have no place or reason to shoot it. I also had a few hundred rounds of ammunition. My FOID card was due to expire this year and rather than renew it, I decided to get rid of the gun and ammo. I pondered selling it, but finally decided to just get rid of it. I didn’t want to put the bullets out in the trash so after some research decided to let the cops deal with it.

Within minutes after my phone call a heavily tattooed policewoman arrived to pick them up and give me a receipt. Even this mundane interaction turned into a prolonged interrogation of irrelevant questions and suspicion. Where did I get it? Why was I surrendering it? Did I have any other guns? Etc. Etc.

I tried to remain polite but I suspect my body language and tone made it clear that none of her questions were any of her damn business. #ACAB

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering killing George Floyd, was transferred to a federal prison in Texas almost nine months after he was stabbed in a different facility, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Tuesday.
