In 1959, America’s 49 star flag, recognizing Alaskan statehood, was officially unfurled. #Alaska My flag story —— I was in the fourth grade in 1964 and we learned about these two new states. Somebody decided to count the stars on our classroom flag and there were only 48. Teacher had some explaining to do.
