#1 Click this link to see Blog page --> 09/01/2006 | #Applebees Late last evening after Tracey finally made her way home from work, we went to Applebees in Pekin. There were several empty tables and four parties ahead of us. We told the little girl hostess we would take the first available table. I dont ordinarily care to sit in the smoking section, but since Tracey had to get to bed so she could go back to work at 5:00 this morning (thats another rant best left for another time!) we decided we didnt want to wait too long. We waited impatiently while this young woman wandered about collecting menus and otherwise taking her sweet time about seating people in the various empty tables that had been empty when we arrived. | When she finally got to us after a lengthy wait, a couple walked in the door and she seated them ahead of us. Thats when I lost it. In a voice heard throughout the joint I asked to see the manager. We were immediately seated at a non-smoking table. The manager hovered over us a bit and then life settled down until Tracey received a raw steak when she had ordered it medium-well. I received rice pilaf instead of the Spanish rice I had ordered. The manager, to her credit, really tried to make things right and took the cost of Traceys steak off our bill. The manager lamented the fact that all she had to work with were all these young teenagers. I can sympathize with her and did, but perhaps they need to consider instilling a sense of responsibility rather than making sure they look busy. I can guarantee you there is one young hostess who got a real life lesson in how embarrassing goofing off on the job can be. I think another sorry issue is this whole smoking / non-smoking thing. Especially when most places think a sign actually divides the smoke as well as the smokers. I think they should be forced to have real separation and then require you to smoke if you sit in the smoking section. Yeah, right thats going to happen. |
