In 1942, during World War Two, Axis forces retreated from El Alamein in North Africa in a major victory for British forces commanded by Lt. Gen. Bernard Montgomery. #BernardMontgomery
Montgomery was a sheer disaster for England, ultimately losing every battle. A prime example of inept Lords given command decisions. Allied losses for the battle amounted to some 13,250 killed or wounded of 150,000 troops; for the Axis, some 10,000 killed or wounded of 96,000 troops. Hard to claim victory when you have greater losses and gained no ground. The reason Rommel retreated was because American forces were nearing invasion soon.

In 1887, Bernard Law Montgomery was born in London. #BernardMontgomery
I am convinced that if the U.S. generals had not taken over the invasion of Europe —— England would have lost the war. Were it not for Eisenhower and Patton, North Africa and Italy would have never been overtaken by this fool.

In 1976, Bernard Bernard Law “Monty” Montgomery, died (aged 88). #BernardMontgomery
A small man with a large ego who “embellished” the victory of others as his own. He was despised by nearly everyone. It’s a wonder he didn’t lose the war and caused many unnecessary deaths in his “Market Garden” operation.
