In 1942, during World War Two, Axis forces retreated from El Alamein in North Africa in a major victory for British forces commanded by Lt. Gen. Bernard Montgomery. #BernardMontgomery Montgomery was a sheer disaster for England, ultimately losing every battle. A prime example of inept Lords given command decisions. Allied losses for the battle amounted to some 13,250 killed or wounded of 150,000 troops; for the Axis, some 10,000 killed or wounded of 96,000 troops. Hard to claim victory when you have greater losses and gained no ground. The reason Rommel retreated was because American forces were nearing invasion soon. |
