In 1963, American author and activist Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique, a landmark work that was a catalyst for the second-wave feminist movement. #BettyFriedan Betty Friedan helped convince a generation of women they too deserved a career outside the home. Unfortunately it was a two-edged movement that flooded the job market with women willing to work for considerably less then male counterparts and began the downward spiral of wages. The added expenses of work attire, a second car and childcare expenses often drove families deeper into debt than before they began working.
