Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has made the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Boldly labeled “The Bomber”, the teenaged Boston Marathon bombing suspect’s portrait is splashed across the August 2013 issue’s cover, usually reserved for rock stars and celebrities. “How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster”, the cover’s caption reads while showing him shaggy haired and unshaven in sepia toned shading. Tens of thousands have now vowed to boycott the magazine on a related Facebook page since the magazine debuted the controversial cover with many calling its decision “shameful”, “sickening” and “glorifying” of an accused killer and terrorist.

A federal appeals court has ordered the judge who oversaw the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of two brothers behind the Boston Marathon bombing, to investigate claims of juror bias. Tsarnaev, 30, was sentenced to death by a jury in 2015 for his role in the Boston Marathon bombing that killed three people and injured hundreds in 2013. However, Tsarnaev’s legal team has argued for his sentence to be thrown out alleging two jurors who sentenced their client to death should have been excluded over bias.
