Although it was a rainy, dreary day outside —— I thoroughly enjoyed sitting with Michael T. yesterday and gabbing. I know we didn’t solve any world problems. We knew that wasn’t going to happen before we even arrived. I guess there is just some therapeutic value in talking to an old friend. Part gossip, part venting, part bragging, and mostly just good-natured sharing of gripes and accomplishments. This is really the kind of therapy money can’t buy.

As a side note, I had mentioned a snide comment made by a sheriff’s deputy at the scene of a minor car accident last year. I had been driving barefoot when an old fellow in Tremont ran a yield sign and crashed into me. The deputy stated I was lucky not to get a ticket for driving with bare feet.

Michael T. said he didn’t think it was illegal to drive barefooted and he is right. I looked all over the Internet and the only thing I could find was some commentary about being able to charge one with “reckless driving” if it could be found that being barefoot had “contributed” to an accident or violation, but that it was not a violation of itself. Nice to know.

But I think I will keep a pair of shoes in the car and, like I told Michael T., I’ll just claim the accident knocked me right out of my shoes!

Michael T. and I had breakfast together yesterday and some good conversation. We shared some interesting points of view regarding Christianity, creationism, evolution and biblical history.

I have to admit I didn’t realize the depth of my ignorance regarding the origins of the old testament until yesterday and I spent some time reading about that (again) later yesterday afternoon. I think what bothers me the most wasn’t that I was showing my ignorance in the discussion as much as that I had once read the history before and either totally forgotten or misconstrued it in my memory.

This may be a foreshadow of advancing age and I am not looking forward to more of that! Perhaps I need to re-examine some other “facts” I have been so freely quoting

I woke up with a HUGE case of heartburn yesterday. It wasn’t too bad until I drank some coffee and it immediately got a lot worse. I took some Zantac and some Tums and it was some better but I still kept getting the hiccups.

I met Michael T. at the Bob Evan’s in Pekin for breakfast but I didn’t have any coffee. I also didn’t order anything the least bit spicy to eat.

Although I had a few spasms and hiccups we did manage to eat our breakfast and carry on some discussion without problems.

As usual we shared our thoughts on the insanity of our government today and our wonder at how the corporate media is allowed to continually tell half-truths and total lies without any response from the public. I can only conclude that the average person is so fed up they don’t even pay attention anymore. I can’t believe the average American is really interested in OJ or a half-dozen black thugs in Louisiana.

Michael T. and I had breakfast together yesterday. I think we had a pretty good discussion once again. It must have been because we got there at 8:00 and it was almost noon before we left!

Once again I think we laid out the resolutions to many of our nation’s problems, but alas nobody was listening, again, so they won’t get implemented. If only either of us could be magically made King for Life —— I don’t know if our country would be better, but it certainly would be different.

Even if we only managed to get back to the original Constitution, etc.

Yesterday started out nice and turned busy. Michael T. and I met for our usual once a month breakfast but this time we were joined by our wives —— Sue and Tracey.

Tracey had to go to work after breakfast so she and I drove separately. It was snowing pretty good when we left but the roads weren’t too bad and I was surprised to see snow plows out early.

The four of us had a nice time and having the ladies present kept the conversation a bit less political.

I enjoyed breakfast with Michael T. yesterday. It was certainly plenty cold and I was a little late getting there. I had to scrape the windows on the Blazer! We talked for over three hours about this, that and other things. I think we are both more than a bit disgusted with the direction and tone of the Dimocrat primary. I hate to jinx us —— but I am afraid if Hillarity wins the nomination —— McMaim and Liarman will be in the White House next year.

Michael T. and I had a good breakfast and conversation yesterday. We talked quit a bit about politics, the primary news and the state of our economy. A couple questions I had to look up for myself later when I got home, such as how many seats are up for grabs in the Senate.

Another topic which I had only a vague awareness of was about Hillarity’s accusations that Obummer had told the Canadians not to worry, that he wouldn’t be changing NAFTA, that it was all campaign rhetoric. I spent some time on this one when I got home and decided the link below to be about the best at explaining the convolutions of he said - she said. I will also put my opinion into the comment section of that post.

Yesterday was the last Friday of the month and I had breakfast with Michael T. again.

We lamented the continued media frenzy surrounding the Rev. Wright, Hillarity’s obvious need to concede, and a few other topics.

I told Michael that I have been watching Link TV more and more often. I think they have some interesting news from time to time —— information you will never see or hear on mainstream corporate media.

We also touched on religious topics a time or two. Religion may be the one facet on which Michael and I are on near opposite views yet we seem able to approach the discussions without rancor.

I enjoy that most about our conversations I think. The ability to completely disagree with one another on occasion without the fear it will be forever a wedge in our friendship.

Like for instance — he thinks Chelsea Clintoon is cute and I think she is —— not cute.

Michael T. and I had a nice breakfast. We discussed politics (as usual), a little bit about the Supreme Court ruling on guns, and he explained the process by which he acquired his new truck. I was again impressed by his religious devotion and by how much it is a part of his life and his decisions. But then I am probably the last person to be any judge of faith as I have (“as yet” as Michael would say) no hard religious faith. It is good to know there are some who still have hope for me.

I am REALLY enjoying riding that bike! Michael T. and I had our monthly breakfast together and I rode the bike to the Blob Evans in Pekin. I am still a little nervous in traffic and feel somewhat like I may be invisible, but I am getting used to it. Michael and I talked motorcycles and stuff. We didn’t really get too much into politics like we usually do. I guess it was just nice to have something neutral to yak about. We did sort of touch on the Duh-bya visit to Peoria today, but not too much. What can you say about him that hasn’t already been said all these many years?

Michael T. and I had breakfast together yesterday morning and he told me that Pat Buchanan, of all people, just gushed about Obama’s speech Thursday night. I happened upon the clip on the Internets if you want to see it at the link above —— Astonishing!

Michael and I talked for at least three hours about politics and some about religion. He is a man of deep spiritual faith and I am not so much.

He is one of the few people I feel comfortable discussing religion with because he doesn’t take personal offense when I say the kind of unfaithful things I say. I am sure there is much we can agree on, but the few things that we differ on are at the heart of the discussion.

It is good to have such discussions without rancor —— and that may be the mark of a true Christian —— the ability to address opposing views without being aloof and with enough humility to simply say “I don’t know” occasionally.

The weather just keeps getting better —— I love it!

I met Michael T. in town yesterday for a late breakfast. He had something he wanted to do early in the morning so we had breakfast a couple hours later than usual. It just made my scooter ride that much more fun.

We talked a lot about politics and our shared concern about whether the GQP will be able to steal another election again. We shall see come Tuesday if Obummer can win by enough they can’t subvert it through voter fraud.

(I have to say I am more worried about this prospect than Michael or anyone else I know —— paranoid I guess. But just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get me!)

I met Michael T. and his wife Sue at the Bob Evan’s in Pekin yesterday morning but it was too crowded. So we decided to go to the little cafe at the north end of Tremont.

I guess this place has changed ownership several times over the years. I haven’t been in there for probably 15 years and when I went it was basically locals only who got any attention or service.

It seems to be a pretty nice place now and perhaps I will start going more often.

Michael & Sue brought their granddaughter along. I would guess her age to be somewhere between nine months and a year or so old. It was nice to have her there.

As usual we discussed politics and stuff. All of us are very glad to be rid of Bush and hopeful that Obummer can bring the changes we need.

Michael T. and I had a nice breakfast yesterday at the Bob Evan’s in Pekin. Michael brought his new computer to show me and he took a picture of one of the waitresses. (Above)

Pennie is leaving Bob’s and going to the Denny’s on University in Peoria so we were saying our goodbyes and I thought it would be nice to have a picture of her. She is a world class waitress and I say that not just because she might read this, but because it is the TRUTH! Best of luck to Pennie and her new life.

Michael’s computer is really nice. I don’t know much about laptop computer nomenclature but I would call his a compact or maybe even a sub-compact as it is smaller that most laptops I have seen.

It does have all the features one would need and a good price. Unless I really start traveling I suspect I will stay with my desktop. My fingers never seem to fit the laptop keys.

#BreakfastMichaelT
During the heat of battle argument discussion yesterday at breakfast Michael T. called me “obtuse”. I must say it brought me up short. Not because he said it but because I was —— I am —— obtuse. Even willfully. I wanted to protest that I was not but I was, I knew I was and it bothered me just a little. Not a lot, but a little.

Sort of like cursing yourself for stubbing your toe on the chair that has always been right where it is when you stub your toe. You blame your lying eyes for not seeing what is there because it has been there so long you forget to see it sometimes.

Obtuse will be my favorite word for a while now and Tracey is already getting tired of hearing it. It really doesn’t matter what the subject was or is, we are all guilty at one time or another of being so invested in our side of the argument discussion that we simply refuse to see the other side —— even though we may even argue the other side on a different day.

It may well be the root of most conflict in our society today about politics and government. Everybody has chosen up sides and the blinders are on about the real discussion. It has become all about avoiding any agreement because we are on opposite sides. Except we aren’t really —— on opposite sides I mean. Before I started typing this I had a lengthy dialog in mind about what were talking about and what my points were and what Michael’s were —— and I decided it didn’t really matter because it was our difference that was the point. And it is intellectually unfair to be obtuse about it. Sorry Michael —— I shall endeavor to be more acute in the future.

Let me start with a confession of obtusity on my own part and an apology along with it.

I cannot remember for sure when I threw that accusation out... which part of the discussion we were in at the time, I think I know but maybe I am simply trying to put it where I think it fits best.

You are such a skilled discusser, have such an enormous store of knowledge and one of the best, if not the best, thinking on your feet minds that I know, that you are very difficult to disagree with, even when I know I do.

I enjoy a discussion such as we had yesterday, it is challenging and forces me to question my own views, hopefully in the middle of the discussion so as not to become obtuse, but even if only after the discussion is over, I am improved by it.

The key to heated discussions is to not let the heat consume anything other than our own errors. and it is my experience that there are very few people able to do that. I hope that you and I, Michael, are two of those people.

Not to worry my friend, I rarely take personal offense unless I am fairly sure that personal offense was intentional. I get irritated and fussy sometimes but it is usually short lived. I appreciate the praise but I don’t deserve it really. Especially when I try to get away with phrases like “abject poverty” —— good catch! I am just as guilty of exaggeration and hypocrisy I fear as that which I condemn others for. Not good and you do well to call me on it.

I don’t think there can be a more fine friendship than one where trust allows truth to be said. At least the truth as we see it even in the face of dissent. I look forward to more “discussions”.

I had breakfast yesterday with Michael T. and his wife Sue. We had a good time discussing a wide range of things. I was hesitant to open any political discussion because it seems a rather loaded topic lately, but Michael asked, “So, do you think we will survive Twitler?”

It still took me a moment to really say what I feel because I was afraid I might just start babbling. The subject makes me angry and ashamed at the same time. I think we three are all in agreement that the American people are completely stupid on this subject and a number of other social issues. Although we did belabor politics, racism, the plight of Millennials, etc. for a while, we also talked of medical issues (older people do that), our travels, phobias, etc.

As we parted I said we should do this more often. (and we should!)
