I got a coupon from Culver’s in my email. BOGO Deluxe double cheeseburger. I print out the coupon and we head through the drive through to pick up supper. I place the order, hand her the coupon and my credit card. She forgot to use the coupon and can’t figure out how to fix it. She calls for help. A couple minutes later a woman comes out to the order shack and they press keys on the register and mumble. She needs help and calls the manager. He comes out and immediately decided he would just reimburse in cash if I don’t mind. Sure go for it. He pulls a calculator out of his pocket and starts to give me $4 and change. I explain the sign says $6.36. He says I paid $12.72 for two and fiddles with his calculator some more. I tell him that $12.72 divided by two is $6.36 this week. He shrugs and hands me six $1 bills and 36¢. Drive around and see a kid standing there with our sack of food looking lost and forlorn. I explain we were delayed at the order shack. He shrugs and hands me the food saying, “It happens and it’s Monday”. That must be it. #Memories #Culvers #Monday.

We went to #Culvers to pick up supper yesterday and sat waiting in line for the food to be brought. We noticed what was obviously a new employee being shown how to deliver as he had an escort talking to him as they walked down the line of cars. We immediately noticed the new guy had Downs.

Later, as Tracey was looking back toward the door, she suddenly put her hand on my arm saying, “Here comes our food, now be nice!”. I knew without looking it was the new guy bringing our food. I admit I was taken aback by her saying that —— as if I was going to be rude or say something nasty.

I didn’t say much but as we were driving home I thought about this a bit. And my initial concern that I was somehow an ogre abated and I realized she had never, ever, told me to “be nice” before and that it was more about the young man’s condition rather than about me. It was about her kind and compassionate nature. Her concern for the fellow’s condition and that we must not be anything other than nice to him.

One of the many reasons why I love her.
