Visitors walk inside the 3,200-year-old Abu Simbel temple located on the upper reaches of the Nile River in Egypt to watch the dawn light up the temple’s inner sanctum to mark the anniversary of Ramses II’s birthday. The axis of the temple was positioned in such a way that rays from the sun would shine into the inner sanctuary only twice a year - on Ramses II birthday and the day of his coronation.
