Dimocrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas is defending her remarks about her state’s governor, Republican Greg Abbott. Crockett referred to Abbott, who is in a wheelchair, as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles on Saturday. “Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there,” Crockett said. “And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot (expletive) mess, honey.” On Tuesday, Crockett denied allegations that she was referring to Abbott being in a wheelchair. “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition — I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.”
