This Jan. 2003 image provided by NASA shows a view of the toilet compartment in the Zvezda Service Module of the International Space Station. The space station’s Russian built toilet has been acting up for the past week. The three male residents have temporarily bypassed the problem, which involves urine collection, not solid waste. NASA rushed Wednesday May 28th, 2008 to get a special pump on board shuttle Discovery to fix a balky toilet at the international space station, as the launch countdown got under way.

This combination of images provided by NASA shows the inflation over more than seven hours on May 28th of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module at the International Space Station. BEAM is a prototype space habitat that can be folded up like a parachute and reduced to nearly 20% of its inflated size, making it easier to pack for a trip into space. Expandable habitats take up less room in a payload fairing than rigid, metal habitats, and are also lighter, which lowers the cost of sending them to space.

There still is no return date set for the Starliner astronauts aboard the International Space Station, officials with NASA and Boeing said Thursday. It has now been almost two months since astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams docked to the ISS on June 5 for what was supposed to be a weeklong mission to test Boeing’s long-delayed Starliner spacecraft. The troubled mission has gone through numerous technical and software-related issues, which delayed it by about four years.

Boeing Starliner astronauts, stranded at the International Space Station after a weeklong test flight turned into a two-month stay due to thruster problems, may be forced to fly home on SpaceX in 2025, NASA has admitted. NASA updated reporters Wednesday at a news conference, which Boeing did not attend, on the timeline for crew members Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. The astronauts have been in space for 63 days with no return date in sight.

Two Boeing Starliner astronauts, stranded at the International Space Station in June after what was supposed to be a weeklong test flight, are facing a new delay in their return trip to Earth, NASA revealed Tuesday. Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore had been scheduled to return on a SpaceX Dragon flight in February, after they were forced to abandon Starliner due to helium leaks and thruster issues. The pair will now return to Earth no earlier than late March, 10 months after they originally launched, as they wait for their replacements to arrive at the ISS.
