I rode my scooter to Bob Evan’s for breakfast yesterday and discovered that corn starch coolant leak is still dripping just a little bit.

An interesting coincidence happened on my way out to the parking lot though. There was an older lady looking at my scooter and she asked me if I had bought it in Peoria. I told her there wasn’t a dealer in Peoria and that I had to get it at Freeport up north.

She said there is a dealer in Peoria. #IllinoisCycle has started a dealership. That is good news!

I called Illinois Cycle later in the morning to ask if they would honor warranty work on the scooter even though I hadn’t bought it from them. I never really got a straight answer. The fellow asked me to explain my problem, then took my name and phone number —— He told me he would call the factory people Monday and see if they had any problems with leaking coolant pumps.

I didn’t pursue the issue at the time. I have until mid-July before the warranty runs out. But I have to wonder if the factory people don’t have a problem does that mean I don’t? I just thought it was an odd answer. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope eventually he understands that I have a problem —— whether the factory does or not.

We almost forgot to take Tracey’s #Piaggio in for the tire change. She bundled up warm and we drove to the west side of Peoria on Allen Rd. to drop her scooter off. It should be done by Tuesday and we will have to make the trek again. It was a much nicer ride than it was when I took mine in because I-474 has been resurfaced and doesn’t have all the huge potholes I had to dodge.

We were greeted at the door of #IllinoisCycle by the golden retriever, Maggie, who works there as door greeter. She is an older dog who enjoys letting people pet her and scratch her ears. She was in a bit of trouble because she went out and rolled in some “chicken fat or something” at the neighboring dumpster. Maggie didn’t seem too worried about it though.

I called #IllinoisCycle to see if the tire for Tracey’s #Piaggio MP3 was in yet —— no. They say it will be “early next week”. They have supplier “issues”. They were supposed to have ordered this tire almost two weeks ago. I ordered the tire for mine last Monday and it arrived yesterday. I told them they need a new supplier. We need to find a new place that will work on our motorcycles. The problem is I can’t find anybody who will work on the small tire diameters.

I still have heard nothing from #IllinoisCycle about the tire for Tracey’s #Piaggio. [sarcasm]I’m beginning to wonder if they had to make the tire or something![sarcasm off]

I called #IllinoisCycle while I was waiting for Tracey to get off work yesterday. I was told her #Piaggio motorcycle tire was in. I didn’t bother to ask when it came in or why they hadn’t called me. I am hoping to haul the motorcycle in this afternoon on the trailer.

I was told it should be done by next Wednesday. I can’t imagine what would take that long to change the tire but I doubt they will have it done anyway. They haven’t been right about anything so far. I’m surprised they are still in business.

I also called #IllinoisCycle to see if they finished Tracey’s motorcycle yesterday like they said they would. After 9 o’clock in the morning and nobody answers. That’s better than banker hours. No phone tag, I’m still it.

I called #IllinoisCycle just a while ago. The motorcycle is supposed to be done by 4 p.m. today. I hope so. The weather is nice so far and would be a good day to ride motorcycles to and from the far end of Peoria. <sarcasm on> I will drop mine off and hope they can get it done before Christmas. </sarcasm off>

I woke up thinking about how much #IllinoisCycle is charging us to replace a rear tire and change the oil in Tracey’s scooter. I couldn’t get back to sleep for thinking about it.

They are charging almost $350. Something like three hours of labor at $90 an hour. They changed the same tire last year for a little less than $160. And I thought that was high.

I was going to ride my MP3 over to swap with them and pick Tracey’s up —— so they could change the tire and oil on mine too. That’s not going to happen now.

I will be sharing the details of this unhappy transaction with anyone who will listen. People need to know how they do business.

The problem with #IllinoisCycle is there is no way a competent mechanic would take three hours to change a tire and change the oil. And it is my opinion that nearly $90 an hour for labor is not appropriate to repair a 250cc scooter.

It is NOT a Rolls Royce for goodness sake. I will be going elsewhere for sure or doing it myself. Once I get an itemized bill I will be sharing it as a cautionary tale to customers and businesses alike.

You can get charged a lot of money if you don’t ask up front and you can lose a lot of customers if you charge too much.

Thats ridiculous for an oil change and tire! I’ve been in #IllinoisCycle a few times to look at bikes but I definitely won’t be buying anything from them. We have had good luck with cupi’s motormall in pekin for tires on the four-wheelers and i think they charge a set fee for mount and balance. I could be wrong but you may try them next time.

$357.10 That’s what we paid to get Tracey’s scooter tire replaced and the oil changed.

It is almost embarrassing to say how badly we got ripped off by this place. Three hundred fifty-seven dollars and ten cents. It’s not so bad if you say it fast.

I’ve got the itemized receipt and will be writing up something a little more detailed to share with the world of Internet editorials, forums and soap boxes.
