Well, I spent yesterday morning getting estimates on the #Honda deer damage. I ended up leaving it at Grimm’s in Morton to fix. The radiator is leaking and the A/C condenser was busted so I didn’t want to drive it too much.

#InsuranceMafia
After I got home I spent some time on the phone with the insurance agent, the insurance company and the insurance adjuster. I made it clear to all of them that only one deer was injured. That it leaped in front of the car, so there was no fault of ours. And if more than one deer limped in to make a claim they would have to sort it out.

Fortunately my warped sense of humor didn’t cause anybody to hang up on me.

Our discussions with Mom and DD during dinner and later at Mom’s trailer were fairly typical. No major news —— just catching up on some of the stuff over the past week.

Mom was tickled to get her benefit package from Caterpillar and find out she doesn’t have to pay any insurance premiums again this year. I don’t know if that is because Cat has been forced to do this by the class action lawsuit or if they are just biding their time until the lawsuit has gone through the courts system. I do know it isn’t out of the kindness in their little black hearts. #InsuranceMafia

I’ve been checking the insurance company web site since we sold the #AstroVan to make sure they dropped the insurance on it. The change in my policy declaration finally showed up yesterday.

The van was no longer listed as insured and the rate on the #Blazer had increased significantly. I was grumping and harrumphing — just about ready to leave the site — when I noticed they still had comprehensive and collision on the Blazer.

I had distinctly told the lady at the insurance agency to drop that coverage to save a few bucks.

Turns out it is about 500 bucks once you add a teenage driver. So I called our agency and the gal says she will fix it. I will keep checking.

This Byetta stuff I am trying for my diabetes was a one month sample kit the doctor gave me. But the stupid thing only had ten needles in it instead of the 60 it will take to use it for a month. I don’t know what’s up with that but you can be sure that decision came from marketing as did the trial sample.

So anyway I go to the pharmacy to get some more needles and they tell me my insurance will pay for the needles but not for the drug. Figures.

So now if the stuff does work my doctor will have to spend some time on paper work (and charge me for it) to get CAT to pay for it. So far I’m not impressed with it anyway as my blood sugars are still too high.

I will be calling our insurance agent, Unland Companies, this morning. We were told when we bought the insurance for Tracey’s scooter that it would have a zero deductible on Comprehensive and Collision. My declaration statement says it has $100 and $250 deductibles so it looks like we will lose $250 on their error. I sent an email to the top two guys at this agency telling them how disappointed I am that I can’t trust my agent when I’m told what my coverages are. And now I am curious what the coverage on my new bike is because I have yet to receive anything in the mail about it. I will try to keep you up to date on this saga because if they should make it right I should set the record straight —— and if they don’t —— ?

I was NOT happy when I got off the phone with the #InsuranceMafia yesterday so I decided to give it some time before typing this up. Probably best.

I called as soon as they opened and I was told my account “representative”, Lisa, was out for the day but then all of a sudden she was in. I was told she would call me back as soon as she had her computer running. I think she was told to be in today because of the emails I sent to her boss.

Anyway about a half-hour later Lisa calls and immediately tells me I am on the speaker phone with her boss Bill. I ask her about the conversation when I bought the insurance and she absolutely denies she ever said anything about zero deductibles and then she and Bill tell me I had to have misunderstood because there is no such thing as zero deductible insurance anymore. Whatever.

I know what I was told and Tracey heard my end of the conversation too. Lisa also said the same thing about my policy on my scooter. It turns out she had put a $500 deductible on it. I had her put them both down to the least we could get on this policy —— $100. Glad we didn’t find out the hard way that I had a $500 deductible!

There were also several other things I had to correct on my policies that she had gotten wrong. I didn’t get nasty with them or make any dire threats but I think I will be looking for a new agent after this claim with Tracey’s scooter is settled.

I don’t like it when people try to blame their mistakes on me. I also learned it is a bad idea to trust your insurance agent because you can get screwed if you do.

The last “representative” we had was great and she spoiled us by being competent.

So if you are doing business with Unland Insurance and Lisa is your “representative” —— you had better double check everything including the fine print and don’t pay much attention to what she tells you because she won’t stand behind it. Lesson learned at the cost of $250.

It is the end of the year and time to make decisions about our medical insurance. I don’t know why it is necessary to rearrange benefit options every year and then make us decide what we want to give up, trade or whatever.

Invariably they give you the information on Monday and want you to decide within a week or so. My pension benefits for health care provides an HMO for the first time which has good coverage for office benefits, immunizations, etc.

It would pay for most of the day-to-day medical stuff much better than the plan I have now that pays nothing for office visits. But there are other things about this plan we don’t like —— especially the maximum out of pocket cost being over twice as high per year. So if you did get real sick it would cost way more.

I spent at least two hours on the phone getting transferred back and forth to get answers for my questions from people who were obviously clueless and trying to decipher plans and manuals they just received.

I finally found somebody at the benefit office at the union hall who could answer most of them.

After everything is said and done I think we will stick with what we have and let this new choice get tried out by others in the first year. I don’t have a lot of confidence in HMOs anyway because everything has to be “authorized” and all they have do is say NO.

Last but not least (and keeping with the medical theme) I got a fax from the doctor’s office telling me my blood sugar is too high and I need to make an appointment to come in and get started on insulin.

Why I need to go in to the office for this is beyond me other than she gets another $70 to $90 for the visit. All I need is the prescription and the needles.

The insulin pens come in pre-determined doses and about two minutes on the phone would be enough to explain what I need. But, NO, I have to go in and listen to another lecture, argue about my cholesterol, etc. and most of all —— pay her for the pleasure.

My appointment isn’t until November 10th though so I have some time to get REALLY aggravated about it.

Guess why I put this one up! There’s a bit more to it than this toon shows though. The #MedicalMafia loves to put all the blame on the #InsuranceMafia and there is certainly enough blame for them to own —— but the medical community does nothing to reign in ridiculous costs, the drug company greed, or their soaring egos. It is just too easy for them to blame the insurance company for all the unnecessary office visits, tests, etc. They are partners in the extortion they use. They know people will pay for good health and they abuse it.

A&B will lose their health insurance unless they are full time students. They both plan to register at ICC soon so I thought I better call and find out what we have to do to keep them insured.

I was surprised to get the answer in one phone call and it sounds simple - almost too simple. The pleasant young lady on the phone told me all I have to do is call a couple weeks before their birthday and tell them what school they are going to and they will take care of it. Time will tell but I really hope it turns out to be that easy.

I got a statement from United Healthcare that says they aren’t paying the rent for my C-PAP breathing machine because the stupid medical supply people didn’t send the bill to the right place.

I expect to spend some time on the phone getting that straightened out. It’s no wonder health care is so expensive with all the red tape and screw-ups.

I decided I should continue to get the credit life insurance on me when we refinanced our home loan. Tracey has a bunch of insurance through her employer but I don’t have so too much.

I thought the premium was a little high through the bank so I asked our insurance agent to check out what it would cost to buy some term insurance. I got my reply yesterday. All but two of the companies said my height to weight ratio was not good —— I’m too short.

The other two won’t insure me until I have been “cancer free” for two years. So I guess we keep what we have.

I got a call from Pekin Prescription Lab (#PPL) yesterday. My insurance company has informed them they won’t be reimbursed for my bi-pap breathing mask unless I can provide them evidence I need it.

They want a copy of the sleep study results complete with the AHI numbers (Apnea Hypopnea Index).

The paper I got from #PekinHospital does not have the full results so I may have to start all over again with this nonsense.

The real stupidity is that if I can’t prove I had the sleep study they won’t pay $200 for the mask —— but they will gladly pay $2000 for another sleep study.

THIS is what is driving health insurance costs through the roof because sleeping with an unnecessary mask is not the latest fad to defraud stupid health insurance companies. #InsuranceMafia #MedicalMafia

I received a bill yesterday from the outfit that sold me my BiPap machine and mask. But, of course, medical outfits don’t really sell you stuff, they rent it to you until they suck your benefits dry and then you own it. So this bill is for three months — Oct thru Dec — and doesn’t show the $140 payment I made last month.

I call them up and the guy don’t know from nothing and when I told them I had paid them using my Internet banking account he gets all snotty and says that is impossible because they don’t accept payments over the Internet. I tried to explain to him he received and cashed a check but he had already fixated on the word “Internet” and refused to listen any further. Finally he says I need to “find” a copy of the canceled check [like he knew I wouldn’t be able to because they don’t take “Internet checks”]. Just goes to show a little ignorance can go a long way.

So I call the bank and spend a few minutes listening to the stupid phone menu before I can talk to a person. She wants an account number and I tell her I have no idea where my check book might be because I don’t write checks; I use Internet banking. So she gets short with me too because it is more trouble to use my name instead of the number they assigned me.

Finally she verifies everything after I give her most of my life history and then says they have to mail me the copy because a “third party” mails those Internet bank drafts. I am beginning to wonder if anybody is ever actually going to get with this century that is already 15 years old? It would be so much easier (and cheaper) to simply email an image of the check or put it on the banking web site like they used to do. I guess so few people need a canceled check that those of us who do can just go to heck and wait?

#Insulin Update:
I went to the doctor’s office last Fri. to change my brand of insulin. My new insurance charges $375 copay for each of two brands of insulin I use. Ouch. So I asked to change to brands the #InsuranceMafia “prefers”. I got a prescription to fill one of them which is actually free and the other, the long acting Lantus, the doctor wanted me to enroll in a program for a new drug and gave me a discount card. Supposed to only cost $15 per month with this card. So I spent about a half-hour on the phone Fri. evening “registering” this card.

We went to Walgreen’s in Pekin yesterday to pick up the new insulin and hit a dead end. The clerk said the discount card won’t cover the cost unless or until a co-pay determination is made by my drug insurance. My drug insurance says they won’t pay anything unless or until they get information from the doctor office for “prior approval”. So it has been punted back to the doctor office and as slow as they are it could be a while before they do that paperwork. Fortunately I still have the insulin pen “sample” the doctor gave me so I bought some needles and we are going to try the new stuff today. The gears grind infinitely slow in the #MedicalMafia.

I called my insurance company and was told I had up to $1,000 per tree to have “storm debris” removed. Great. So I asked if my $500 deductible applied. She said, “I don’t think so.” I asked for clarification and she said, “I think it will be alright.” or something like that. Again, I asked for clarification and she said she would get back to me. I called at 9 a.m. yesterday and —— crickets.

I also called a tree service and the guy was out yesterday afternoon with an estimate. $425 to cut up and remove the tree and $75 added if they have to grind the stump away. I told him to go ahead and do it and we agreed he would wait until the ground was dry enough not to get his truck stuck or leave ruts.

So, up to $500. The same amount as my insurance deductible, if it applies. So this will either cost me nothing or $500. I wonder how many more phone calls to my insurance agent to get an answer to this very complicated question? </sarcasm>

Yesterday was my yearly eye exam. I arrived at 9:40 a.m. for a 9:50 appointment and it was almost 12:30 before I got out of there.

The office is doing a medical software change-over so this required extensive question answering and form filling. I came within a whisker of just walking out.

We have been going to the same eye doctor for years now and he is very good. But he works for Bard and that is not so good.

I will never understand how having my gall bladder removed or the medical problems of my paternal grandmother have anything whatsoever to do with getting a new pair of glasses. Or my weight and height. Or about a dozen other questions that MUST be answered.

The actual exam took less that 10 minutes and my eyesight hasn’t changed so I don’t need new glasses. And my diabetic eye exam had good results too —— no problems there. Except I couldn’t see very well after that exam with all the bright light aimed down my eyeball.

Then there was the inevitable hassle to get my prescription in writing because I NEVER buy their terribly overpriced glasses. And then the argument over the $40 co-pay. I explained to the girl that because of the aforementioned gall bladder removal I had already paid the full out-of-pocket and deductible limits on my insurance.

She wouldn’t listen and said she had just got off the phone with my insurance and knew what she was talking about.

I told her to bill me for the $40 and I would get back with her after checking with my insurance. I told the girl it was so much easier to prevent being billed instead of trying to get my money back after I had paid it improperly. She got a bit testy about it but finally realized I wasn’t going to be coerced.

I went out to my car and called Blue Cross / Blue Shield. I spoke with Michelle who immediately agreed I owed them nothing. Michelle put me on hold while she called Bard and then shortly after returned on the line to tell me it was straightened out. I went back into the office to make sure they agreed while I looked them in the eye.

I just wish my eye doctor would go work for another office.

I called the insurance people again after waiting a couple hours without a call back and demanded to speak to a person. It took me a few minutes but somebody finally answered my questions about getting Tracey’s phone repaired. Of course I had to first get past all the silly questions about the make, model and serial number of the phone, which they already had but were too lazy to look up themselves, etc. If the phone is repairable we have to get it repaired. If not we get a new phone and the insurance company gets the old phone. Presumably to verify that the phone isn’t repairable.

We like the insurance company but the agent really sucks. And there aren’t any other agents in the area for this company. Late last evening I got an email from our car insurance agent asking about the insurance on the car that Aaron drives. It is a 97 Malibu licensed and titled in our name but he parks it at his apartment in Peoria. I was asked to call “as soon as possible”.

I called at 9:40 this morning and was told the agent was on the phone and left a voice mail. I called again 90 minutes later as I received no call back.

It seems they want Aaron to insure the car in his own name. I asked how we were going to force him to insure my car. That seemed to confuse her. I explained the car is twenty years old and probably not worth what we are paying in insurance. After some more confused discussion she decided she will have to call somebody and get some answers.

I was left with the question —— why didn’t she have the available options and answers before sending the “as soon as possible” email?

The car insurance lady called again late yesterday afternoon. She said she spoke with the insurance underwriter and they strongly suggest it would be best if we titled and registered the car in Aaron’s name and had him buy his own insurance.

I asked, “Who would it be best for?” To which there was some dead air and then she said we could leave everything just as it was because it was my car currently but, again, it would be better for everybody if this was “corrected”. I declined to correct it.

She said that was Okay and there would be no changes to our insurance coverage and no extra charges to “allow” us to continue doing this.

I am so glad they are going to allow me to continue owning and insuring my car as I choose. Although I must admit I had no idea they had anything to say about it in the first place. I highly suspect this kind of nonsense is part of the reason insurance costs so much with all the time and phone calls wasted on such allowances.

MjL

I am of two minds on this, first reaction is, Just say it! second reaction is, Everybody knows what you are saying so no need to give them the soundbite they are demanding. The more I ponder this the more I’m coming down on the side of thinking it is smart to not let “them” frame it. Those demanding she say the words, “I’m going to raise taxes”, are not going to vote for her anyway so why pander to them?

Michael T.

My take is that her original position is the true one,
that she will increase “access” and create a “framework”
which in essence nothing changes and we keep the

eliminating private insurance as the primary insurance.

MjL

Two different issues. They have tried to pin her down on whether or not she will raise taxes on the middle class to pay for medicare for all and she is not having their framing, says the costs will go down for middle class, costs will go up for the wealthy and big corporations.

The issue you raise...yea she is pretty cloudy on just what she is supporting now.

Michael T.

I think my bottom line is that she doesn’t have the character I thought she had —— waffling on campaign finance and big money, changing stories on how she lost her first teaching job, the whole Native American thing, admittedly a “proud capitalist”, frequent meetings with HRC, flip-flop on marriage equality (not that I’m all that excited 1 way or the other, but consistency matters), etc.

they managed to pull off this scam on the American people? MSM is
part of the answer but, I’m afraid we really are that stupid.

The worst of it has been pawned on us by the lobbyists who buy our representatives. Forced car insurance is one of the worst. Refusing to offer reasonable flood insurance to homeowners was so bad the government was forced to provide it and it is the only way you can get it. ETC. Wildfire insurance and earthquake insurance will be the next to go.

I just spent a half-hour on the phone with my prescription drug provider. I checked on all the medicines Tracey and I are prescribed. Fortunately there was no change in my insulin cost but a few of the others went up about 20% and my #COPD inhaler went up from $30 to $75.

If I hadn’t called to check I would have been surprised for the doubled cost of my inhaler. A couple years ago my pharmacy was kind enough to tell me before filling my insulin prescription that the cost had gone up over $400 and I had to get the doctor to prescribe a different (less effective) brand. American health care sucks.

I’m beginning to wonder if I sound feeble on the phone or something.

During my discussion with our insurance auto glass adjuster she asked twice if I was sure it was the 2017 Escape that needed repair and not the 2015 because they look very much alike.

What would make this woman doubt I don’t know which of two cars is which? I almost asked her if she has trouble figuring out which of her possessions is which?

Now, when people might actually need insurance —— they quit.

Watching the news and the inevitability of a “hurricane tax” on all insurance policies because insurance companies would go broke. So much for free market capitalism. If you or I invest badly we go under. Our assets are sold and we are bankrupt. Insurance companies have a different rule. Their profitability is more important than our lives. Everybody has to chip in to make them profit.

I spent more than a half-hour on the phone yesterday trying to straighten out a #BCBS #InsuranceMafia #MedicalMafia #SNAFU.

We have a hefty bill that was denied and I’m sure it is because we got a new insurance administrator this year and the policy numbers are all fouled up. Add to that a billing website that won’t let me in and customer support people in a foreign country who don’t speak English. I don’t know if I got it fixed, but I tried.

I had a video appointment with the pulmonologist a couple weeks ago and he prescribed a new inhaler. After a few red tape #InsuranceMafia hurdles I finally got it today and will try it out tomorrow. He has been trying to get this medication for me for a few years but it was not on my insurance and was over $600 per month. Now it is more affordable at $135 per month.

Regarding the link above:
Every social movement is eventually weaponized by somebody to use as a cudgel for the exact opposite effect. The righteous Me Too movement spawned #Buildabrand and her jihad against #AlFranken. The feminist movement created the opportunity for capitalists to enslave all workers with two-tier wages and opportunities. #Obamacare cemented the #MedicalMafia and the #InsuranceMafia as replacements for actual health care. Worker pensions were usurped by Wall St. scams called 401K. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Dims & GQP use fascism and antifa as levers to bolster autocracy. The same with #Zionist #Genocide use of antisemitism as an excuse for anything and everything. They have been using perpetual victimhood for centuries and it is no surprise others have adopted it too.
