Governor J. B. Pritzker said he is taking the drastic measure of ordering Illinois bars and restaurants closed.
This will make it even harder to find groceries and will certainly be a hardship on all those employees who are now jobless.

Ahead of Twitler moving back into the White House, Democratic Govs. J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and Jared Polis of Colorado on Wednesday announced the launch of a nonpartisan coalition of governors aimed at protecting state-level democratic institutions. Chaired by Pritzker and Polis, the Governors Safeguarding Democracy seeks to fortify democratic institutions in states, the coalition said in a statement. Through designing and implementing strategies, the coalition will seek to protect the rule of law, executive agencies, elections, state courts and other democratic bodies. It will also develop what it calls “playbooks” that governors can use “to anticipate and swiftly respond to emerging threats,” it said. “At this critical moment in our history, we must unite to protect the foundations of our democracy and ensure our institutions withstand threats and persevere in their mission to improve the lives of our people,” the pair of Democratic governors said.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has signed new legislation requiring law enforcement agencies in the state to perform more comprehensive reviews of prospective officers, prompted by the 2024 shooting of Sonya Massey, a black woman who was shot in the face while in her home by a sheriff’s deputy. Top provisions of the bill, according to Illinois State Sen. Doris Turner, include making sure that hiring agencies have a candidate’s full employment history, creating merit boards for hiring sheriff’s deputies in significantly smaller jurisdictions, and ensuring more comprehensive employment vetting rules apply to all law enforcement agencies, from township police to park police. Pritzker signed the legislation, called the Sonya Massey Act, on Aug. 12th.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the Twitler administration from deploying National Guard troops to Illinois over the objection of local officials. The unsigned 6-3 order is at least a temporary setback for the Twitler administration, which argued in court that the troops were needed to quell unrest in the Chicago area that it said was obstructing federal immigration officials from doing their jobs.
Score one for Pritzker against Twitler’s coup. #JBPritzker
