In 1992, after a reign lasting nearly thirty years, John William “Johnny” Carson hosted NBC’s Tonight Show for the final time (Jay Leno took over as host three days later). #JohnnyCarson This photo brought to mind something that happened in the mid 60s. I was up late on a Friday night watching the Johnny Carson show when my Dad came home from work on second shift. Since I had to be up early on weekday mornings to deliver newspapers I could only watch the show on Fri. and Sat. nights —— so seeing Dad come home from work only happened once a week if that. As soon as he came through the door he walked over and handed Mom and me two candy bars each. He said he had stopped on the way home from work to get them for us. The three of us sat watching the TV and munching candy bars and I felt so special that my Dad had thought of me.
