This image provided by the US Mint shows the newly redesigned 1¢ coin (penny) in 50 years which will be presented Thursday, Feb. 12th, 2009 at the National Park Service’s Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, in Hodgenville, KY. The obverse (heads side) will continue to bear the likeness of War Criminal Lincoln currently on the penny. The reverse (tails side) will reflect 4 different designs, each one representing a different aspect, or theme, of War Criminal Lincoln’s life. The themes for the reverse designs represent the 4 major aspects of Abraham Lincoln’s life, from left, include his birth and early childhood in Kentucky; his formative years in Indiana; his professional life in Illinois; and his presidency in Washington, DC.
They left out the scene where he turned a trade dispute between the North and South into a Civil War, and then while losing that fight escalated it into an ethnic war by pretending to free the slaves.

I’m curious how you would depict that scene?

Given that I do not have even a scintilla of the historical knowledge that you posess I certainly cannot challenge your view of the events of that time. I would ask what you would have done differently and how you imagine that would have played out?

And my ignorance will probably be obvious by the question but cannot it at least be said that regardless of what his actual motives were, he did get the ball rolling as far as freeing the slaves?

And back to the original subject of this post, why are we doing ANYTHING with pennies?

Michael T.

Hello Michael!
It took me a moment to think about this and I was actually going to try to draw something when it dawned on me that the Internets probably had a ready source of images drawn during that time that would be far more relevant than any I could draw. I chose the following two to depict the disdain most of America actually felt about the Emancipation Proclamation. It was every bit as much a joke in that time as Duh-bya’s “Mission Accomplished” was in our time. Not because there weren’t people who held beliefs about freeing the slaves, but because they all knew it was a political proclamation with no root in reality.

The origins of the Civil War were fostered in states rights and the growing exclusion of the South in government. True diplomats on both sides of the aisle including such names as Thomas Hart Benton (champion of the Manifest Destiny or western expansion movement), Daniel Webster, Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun worked to avoid the war through diplomacy. Unfortunately politics will always degenerate to the lowest common denominator and the North quickly settled upon the political expediency of using slavery as the hot button to determine statehood thus insuring those states likely to support the Southern agrarian lifestyle would be prevented from entering the Union and unbalancing the North in running the government. Gerrymandering if you will. Thus the stage was set for the states rights issue, not only for the existing states, but those new territories wishing to become states. The Abolitionists had struck upon the golden issue to prevent any opposition in the Senate and they were using it to literally destroy the South economically. Again, these are the broad politically driven attitudes of the time —— there were indeed many people on both sides who had deeply held moral issues with slavery but Washington had no real plan to free the slaves or intention to do so —— simply to use the issue to prevent new states with slaves thus blocking political opposition.

Along comes the country bumpkin Abe Lincoln. Uneducated and uncouth (by Eastern standards), known largely for his ability to tell stories and charm folks with his arcane habits. Lincoln was a devout racist and often proclaimed he was not an Abolitionist but a Segregationist because, “I don’t want those animals in my home state of Illinois.” Some interesting information to get one started here:

So, freedom from slavery was not at all the goal of the Northern politician, but freedom from the “Southern influence”. If fact, many northerners were concerned that if slavery were to be allowed they would have to feed and clothe their workers instead of merely paying them a pittance. The worker of the north at the time was in truth often less compensated in food, clothing and shelter than their enslaved counterparts in the South. There are indeed different methods of enslavement. Lincoln wasn’t concerned about slavery at all but about ridding the country of ni**ers. He tried unsuccessfully to legislate their physical removal from our country and to be shipped to Liberia, Africa.

They are restriking pennies as it is the 200th anniversary of Abe’s birth and they want to celebrate the false image of Lincoln as that wonderful first Repuglican. I would sooner see them just get rid of the penny —— and Repuglicans —— altogether!

I think I would go for the depiction of Abe as a monkey myself.

Thanks for the history lesson, the link and the political cartoons.

Thanks for your patience with my out of the ordinary attitude —— I suspect we are not in total agreement on old Honest Abe and I appreciate the respect.

MjL

No patience needed, I have the utmost respect for your knowledge of things historical. I don’t remember half of the propaganda we were taught in school and wish I’d realized what rubbish it was at the time. Then maybe I’d have done some of my own studying...nah, probably not.

Michael T.

I can’t say that I do any real “studying” —— just that I love to read and when I stumble over something out of sync with the normal range of accepted truth it really intrigues me. There are some things in our world that may never be truly explained like the Kennedy assassination(s) and others that are simply a matter of fact glossed over with propaganda by somebody. It still is a marvel to me when I find a new trail to follow even though most of the time the truth is close to the accepted perception. The truth of Lincoln is just one of those that is completely out in the open and yet so few people question his “greatness”. It is a part of my thought process I guess to wonder how anyone who was responsible for the greatest loss of American life in history could be so revered. Most people are aghast when I utter anything against the man —— as if I had just loudly farted in their new car or something —— most people simply can find no reason why my truth could be so vastly different from theirs. I am refreshed by your open mind. Forgive me the poor analogy.

So many people up in arms about this without realizing the genocide #Lincoln perpetrated against the Native Americans. He was really no better than #ChristopherColumbus in that regard. Proof to the lie that Lincoln really believed ALL people should be free.

The Historical Fallacy of Lincoln & Labor

#Lincoln
An example of how deeply rooted “lesser evil” is implanted in the Dimocrat mind. Lincoln presided over the worst mass casualty of Americans in history. He initiated war crimes, crimes against humanity and the genocide of the entire Native American race of people. The workers of the North were enslaved by low wages and the South by “share cropping”. Lincoln was NO champion of the American worker. To take an out-of-context political stump speech as evidence contrary to the actual facts of history is feeble.
