Inouye, D-HI, a member of the Watergate investigating committee, questions witness James McCord during the hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, as John M. Montoya, Dimocrat of New Mexico, is at right. Inouye, the influential Dimocrat who broke racial barriers on Capitol Hill and played key roles in congressional investigations of the Watergate and Iran-Contra scandals, died of respiratory complications, Monday, Dec. 17th, 2012, according to his office. He was 88.
This is how I think of the Senator the most —— the picture I have always had of him in my mind is of his part in the Watergate hearings so long ago. Seemed to be one of the few decent politicians.

Dimocrat Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii has died at age 88 after battling a respiratory illness, Dimocrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced Monday. Inouye won the Medal of Honor in World War Two, a conflict that cost him his right arm, and later became the first Japanese-American House member and then senator.

Kyle Carpenter received the Medal of Honor from Obama for conspicuous gallantry for his courageous actions while serving as an Automatic Rifleman with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division (Forward), I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He received the medal for injuries he sustained on Nov. 21st, 2010, while attempting to shield a Marine from an enemy hand grenade. Carpenter’s body absorbed the brunt of the blast, severely injuring him, but saving the life of his fellow Marine. He is the 8th living recipient of the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.
